Overview
This feature accelerates transcoding by splitting a source video into smaller segments and processing them in parallel. This increases transcoding speed by 5 to 30 times, significantly reducing processing time. It is ideal for time-sensitive content such as news, live events, and major announcements.

Description |

Speed boost |
Transcoding speed is typically boosted 5 to 30 times, depending on the input video. You can set a target speed boost, such as 5x, 10x, 20x, or 30x, on the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding. |
|
Recommended use cases |
Use high-speed transcoding for long-form videos (over 30 minutes) or for complex jobs that involve high frame rates, ultra-high definition (UHD) processing, or audio and video enhancement. For more information, see Limitations. |
|
Fallback policy |
Not all videos can be segmented for parallel processing. By default, if a submitted video is incompatible with this feature, the job falls back to standard transcoding mode. |
Supported regions
China (Beijing), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Shenzhen), and Asia Pacific SE 1 (Singapore).

|
Before February 14, 2023 |
MPS queues for high-speed transcoding created before this date are the legacy version. Alibaba Cloud will contact you to help you migrate to the official release version. After migration, the feature is free to use until September 29, 2023. Billing starts at 00:00 on September 30, 2023. |
Enable or disable the feature
Log in to the MPS console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Global Settings to go to the Pipelines page. On this page, create an MPS queue and select High-speed as the Type. After creating the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding, submit your transcoding jobs to it. The jobs are processed in high-speed mode by default. For more information, see Create an MPS queue.
To avoid unnecessary charges, pause the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding or submit your jobs to a standard MPS queue if you no longer need this service. If you have any questions, contact Alibaba Cloud technical support.
When you create an MPS queue, set the Name (for example, "high-speed-transcoding-queue"), and for Speed-up Cap, select your desired multiplier (such as 5x). Under Conditional Transcoding, select a fallback policy: Transcode in Normal Mode if Speed-up Is Not Supported or Fail the Job if Speed-up Is Not Supported.
