:Official release of high-speed transcoding after public preview

Last Updated:Dec 15, 2023

The public preview of high-speed transcoding ended on March 29, 2023, and high-speed transcoding was officially released on March 30, 2023.

End date of public preview

March 29, 2023

Official release date

March 30, 2023

Features

High-speed transcoding increases the transcoding speed by 5 times to 30 times by splitting a video into multiple segments and concurrently transcoding the video segments. This feature is suitable for scenarios such as news, events, and important content that have high requirements for publish and timeliness.

Feature

Description

Speed boost

The transcoding speed can be boosted 5 times to 30 times depending on the properties of the input video, such as the format, resolution, and bitrate of the video. You can specify the expected speed boost for an ApsaraVideo Media Processing (MPS) queue for high-speed transcoding, such as 5-time, 10-time, 20-time, or 30-time speed boost.

Suitable videos

We recommend that you use high-speed transcoding for videos whose lengths are more than 30 minutes, or videos that require high frame rates, ultra high definition, and audio-visual enhancement. For more information, see Limits.

Policy

Splitting is not supported for all videos. By default, videos that are delivered to the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding but do not support high-speed transcoding will be returned to the standard MPS queue for regular transcoding.

Supported regions

China (Beijing), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Shenzhen), and Singapore

Impacts

Creation time of an MPS queue for high-speed transcoding

Description

On or after February 14, 2023

You can use the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding free of charge before March 29, 2023. You are charged for using the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding from 00:00 on March 30, 2023.

Before February 14, 2023

The MPS queue for high-speed transcoding that you created before February 14, 2023 is used for the previous version of high-speed transcoding. The MPS team will contact you to migrate your MPS queue for high-speed transcoding to the official version of high-speed transcoding. After migration, you can use the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding free of charge before September 29, 2023. You are charged for using the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding from 00:00 on September 30, 2023.

Enable or disable an MPS queue for high-speed transcoding

Log on to the MPS console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Global Settings > Pipelines. On the Pipelines page, click Create MPS Queue. In the Create MPS Queue dialog box, select Boosted from the MPS Queue Type drop-down list. After the MPS queue is created, deliver a transcoding job to the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding. By default, the video or audio is transcoded based on the speed boost that you specify. For more information, see Create and manage MPS queues.

Note

If you do not need to use the high-speed transcoding feature, stop the MPS queue for high-speed transcoding in time, or deliver your transcoding job to the standard MPS queue. If you have questions, contact Alibaba Cloud technical support.
