ApsaraDB for MongoDB:Enable auto-renewal

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2026

Auto-renewal keeps your subscription instances running without manual intervention. When enabled, Alibaba Cloud automatically charges your account before each expiration date, so you never lose access due to a missed renewal.

How it works

The system attempts to charge your account at 08:00, nine days before the instance expires. If the charge fails, the system retries once per day for the next two days — three attempts total. If all three attempts fail, renew the instance manually to prevent service interruption and data loss.

Two additional behaviors to be aware of:

  • Takes effect the next day. If your instance expires tomorrow, enable auto-renewal today and then renew manually. Auto-renewal won't protect you until the day after you enable it.

  • Manual renewal resets the schedule. If you manually renew before the scheduled auto-renewal date, the next automatic charge runs before the new expiration date.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • A sufficient Alibaba Cloud account balance to cover the renewal charge.

Enable auto-renewal when you create an instance

When you create a subscription ApsaraDB for MongoDB instance, select your subscription duration, and then select the Auto-renewal checkbox.

The renewal period matches the unit of your subscription duration — monthly for a monthly subscription, yearly for a yearly subscription. For example, a six-month subscription auto-renews for one month at each renewal.

Enable auto-renewal for an existing instance

After you enable auto-renewal, the system renews the instance for the renewal period you select. For example, selecting a three-month renewal period renews the instance for three months at each renewal.
  1. Log on to the ApsaraDB for MongoDB console.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the console, click Expenses > Renewal Management.

  3. On the Renewal Management page, click the Manual or Nonrenewal tab.

  4. Enable auto-renewal for one or more instances:

    • Single instance: Find the target instance and click Enable Auto Renewal in the Actions column. On the Enable Auto Renewal page, select a renewal period and click Auto Renewal.

    • Multiple instances: Select the target instances. In the lower-left corner of the list, click Enable Auto Renewal. On the Enable Auto Renewal page, select a renewal period and click Auto Renewal.

Related operations

On the Renewal Management page, you can also:

  • Change the renewal period: Click the Auto tab, find the instance, and click Edit Auto Renewal in the Actions column.

  • Renew immediately: On the Manual, Auto, or Nonrenewal tab, find the instance and click Renew in the Actions column.

  • Stop auto-renewal: On the Auto or Nonrenewal tab, find the instance and click Enable Manual Renewal in the Actions column. This switches the renewal method from automatic to manual and disables auto-renewal.

  • Disable renewal: On the Manual or Auto tab, find the instance and click Nonrenewal in the Actions column. The instance won't be renewed when it expires.
