MaxCompute:Overview

Before you start using MaxCompute, set up accounts, create a project, configure access permissions, and select a connection tool.

What you need to prepare

Item What to do
Accounts Identify who will use MaxCompute and create Alibaba Cloud accounts or Resource Access Management (RAM) users for them. For the differences between the two account types, see Operations and related roles.
MaxCompute projects Decide on the region, billing method, and data type edition for each project based on your business requirements.
Roles and permissions Assign roles and permissions to project members based on the principle of least privilege. For details, see Permissions.
Environment and tools Select a tool that fits your workflow. Each tool connects to MaxCompute through an endpoint — choose the endpoint based on the region and network type you select when you activate MaxCompute. For available tools, see Tools. For endpoint details, see Endpoints.

Setup procedure

Step Description
Step 1: Create an Alibaba Cloud account Create an Alibaba Cloud account and complete real-name verification.
Step 2: (Optional) Prepare a RAM user If multiple people will work on the same project, create RAM users and share their credentials with the relevant team members.
Step 3: Activate MaxCompute and DataWorks Activate both MaxCompute and DataWorks.
Step 4: Create a MaxCompute project Create a project before you can run jobs in MaxCompute.
Step 5: (Optional) Grant permissions to a RAM user If RAM users need access to MaxCompute, add them to the related workspace.
Step 6: Select a tool Set up the tool and connection information required to submit and run jobs.
