Intelligent Media Management:Create a project

Last Updated:Jun 04, 2026

After you activate IMM, create a project in the console.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the IMM console.

  2. On the Project List page, select a region in the upper-left corner.

    Important
    • To reduce latency and costs, a project can only process data from OSS buckets in the same region.

    • You cannot change the region of a project after it is created.

  3. On the Project List page, click Create Project to open the Create Project panel.

  4. In the Create Project panel, configure the following parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Project Name

    The project name must:

    • Be 1 to 128 characters in length.

    • Contain only letters, digits, hyphens (-), and underscores (_).

    • Start with a letter or underscore (_).

    Important

The project name cannot be changed after creation.

    Project Description

Enter a description for the project.

    Service Role

The service role grants IMM permissions to access other cloud resources, such as OSS.

Select a service role when creating a project. For first-time setup, create the default role AliyunIMMDefaultRole on the Cloud Resource Access Authorization page.

    Warning

Note that the AliyunIMMDefaultRole has extensive access permissions to OSS. If a RAM user has IMM permissions such as CreateProject / UpdateProject, that user can attach the AliyunIMMDefaultRole and use the metadata indexing feature to list or analyze your OSS files. To grant more granular permissions, see Create a custom service role.

    Note

You can also create a service role in the Resource Access Management (RAM) console. Create a service role and grant permissions. After creating the role, click the refresh icon and select it for your IMM project.

    Dataset Template

Specify a workflow template when creating a project or dataset. Templates define workflows for API operations. Workflow templates.

    Number of datasets

Maximum datasets per project. Valid values: 1 to 1,000,000,000.

    Data Sources

Maximum OSS buckets per dataset. Valid values: 1 to 10.

    Number of documents

Maximum files per dataset. Valid values: 1 to 100,000,000.

    Metadata quantity

    Maximum metadata entities per dataset.

    Note

Reserved. No limit is currently enforced.

    Number of metadata relations

    Maximum metadata relationships per dataset.

    Note

Reserved. No limit is currently enforced.

    Total file size

Maximum total file size per dataset, in bytes. Exceeding this limit prevents indexing new files.

  5. Click OK to create the project.
