    This topic describes the Hologres billing method and how to estimate costs.

    Key concepts

    • Storage

      Storage refers to the amount of data you store in Hologres, excluding data replicas. You are billed for your actual usage, which includes business data and metadata. For specific billing details, refer to your bill. Storage is measured in gigabytes (GB).

    • Compute capacity

      For an exclusive instance, compute capacity is the total computing resources required for operations in Hologres, such as writes and queries. It is measured in compute units (CUs). One CU is equivalent to 1 core and 4 GB of memory.

      For an exclusive instance, compute capacity also includes the resources used by these features:

      • When you run SQL jobs using the Serverless Computing feature, the amount of computation is the amount of serverless computing resources used. The unit is the Compute Unit (CU)-hour.

      • For additional computing resources provisioned using the time-specific scaling feature, you are billed for the scaled-out resources, measured in CU-hours.

    • Network traffic

      Network traffic is the data transferred over the network when you use the cross-region snapshot replication feature. It is measured in gigabytes (GB).

    Billing

    Hologres exclusive instances support two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go. You are billed for three types of resources: computing, storage, and network. The figure below details the associated billable items.

    Exclusive instances support advanced features such as Serverless Computing, backup and restoration, and cross-region snapshot replication, regardless of the billing method. Note that these advanced features consume computing, storage, and network resources, which are always billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

    • Subscription

      This is a pre-paid billing method where you pay for a monthly or yearly plan based on your estimated computing and storage resource needs. For more information, see Subscription.

    • Pay-as-you-go

      This is a post-paid billing method. Computing fees are based on the specifications of your computing resources and instance runtime. Storage fees are based on actual storage usage and the duration of storage. Billing is hourly, which means charges are deducted (settled) every hour. For more information, see Pay-as-you-go.

      Note

      You are still billed hourly for computing resources, even if no jobs are running on the instance.

    This topic describes the detailed billing rules for each billable item and how to stop billing for Hologres under the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods.

    Computing resources

    You are charged upfront at the time of purchase for the specifications and subscription duration you select.

    To release an instance before the subscription expires, join the Hologres DingTalk group to submit a request. For more information, see How can I get more online support?.

    Important

    After an instance is released, its data and objects cannot be recovered. Proceed with caution.

    Gateway resources

    Reserved computing resources of a virtual warehouse

    Elastic resources of a virtual warehouse (including scheduled scaling and auto scaling)

    You are billed post-use based on the amount and duration of elastic resources used.

    Stop using the scaling features and use the reserved computing resources of the instance instead.

    Serverless computing resources

    You are billed post-use based on the amount and duration of serverless computing resources used.

    To stop charges, use the instance's reserved computing resources instead of serverless computing resources when you run SQL statements.

    Standard storage

    • You prepay for your subscribed storage capacity at the time of purchase.

    • If your stored data exceeds the subscribed capacity, you are billed for the overage on a pay-as-you-go basis.

    • To release an instance before the subscription expires, join the Hologres DingTalk group to submit a request. For more information, see How can I get more online support?.

      Important

      After an instance is released, its data and objects cannot be recovered. Proceed with caution.

    • To stop overage charges, delete the data that exceeds your subscribed storage capacity.

    Computing resources

    Billing starts when the instance is created. You are billed hourly for the specifications you purchase, even if the instance is idle.

    • Go to the Hologres console, find the target instance, and in the Actions column, click Stop.

    • To stop charges for elastic resources, disable scheduled scaling and use the instance's reserved computing resources instead.

    Serverless computing resources

    You are billed post-use based on the amount and duration of serverless computing resources used.

    To stop charges, use the instance's reserved computing resources instead of serverless computing resources when you run SQL statements.

    Standard storage

    Billing starts when data is stored in the instance and is charged hourly.

    Delete the stored data to stop billing.

    Infrequent access (IA) storage

    Backup snapshots

    You are billed based on the amount of storage used.

    Disable periodic backups and delete existing snapshots.

    Network transfer fees for cross-region snapshot replication

    You are billed based on the amount of data transferred.

    Cost calculation

    Hologres costs are based on the subscription or pay-as-you-go billing method and vary by region.For details on billing rules and how to stop charges, see Billing rules for billable items.

    Example scenarios:

    • Scenario 1

      For a subscription plan, assume you need 500 GB of standard storage and 64 CU of computing resources for a 6-month term. If your instance is in Singapore, the total prepaid cost is: (USD 31.970149 × 64 × 6) + (USD 0.182090 × 500 × 6) = USD 12,822.80722. The billing logic for infrequent access storage is the same.

    • Scenario 2

      With a subscription plan, you initially purchase 100 GB of standard storage. However, in a given hour, your usage increases to 200 GB. If your instance is in Singapore, you will be charged for the excess storage. The additional charge is calculated as follows: (200 - 100) × USD 0.000379 = USD 0.0379.

    • Scenario 3

      In a pay-as-you-go model, you provision 64 CU of computing resources, and your infrequent access storage usage is 100 GB for one hour. If your instance is in Singapore, the total cost for that hour is: (USD 0.182090 × 64 × 1) + (USD 0.000055 × 100 × 1) = USD 11.65926.

    Billing cycle

    Hologres bills are issued on the following schedule:

    • Subscription: When you purchase a subscription instance, a bill for the prepayment is sent to your Alibaba Cloud account. If your storage usage exceeds the subscribed capacity, the overage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. A bill for this overage is sent to your Alibaba Cloud account every hour until your storage usage is within the subscribed capacity.

    • Pay-as-you-go: Bills are sent to your Alibaba Cloud account hourly.

    Billing methods

    Hologres offers two billing methods. Review the following to determine the best option for your business.

    • Pay-as-you-go: Recommended for development and testing projects with unpredictable jobs or small data volumes. This method provides excellent cost control because you pay only for the resources you use.

    • Subscription: Recommended for stable jobs in a production environment.
