This topic describes the billing methods for Hologres and explains how to estimate costs.

Terms
Storage
Storage is the amount of data you store in Hologres, excluding data replicas. You are charged for the actual storage you use. This includes business data and metadata. For more details, see your bill. The storage unit is gigabytes (GB).
Compute
Compute for dedicated resources of an exclusive instance is the total amount of compute resources required for operations, such as data writes and queries. The unit is compute unit (CU). One CU is equivalent to 1 core and 4 GB of memory.
Exclusive instances also support compute for the following features:
If you use the Serverless Computing feature to run SQL jobs, compute is the amount of Serverless Computing resources used, measured in CU-hours.
If you use the scheduled scaling feature to add compute resources, the amount of scaled-out resources is measured in CU-hours.
Network traffic
Network traffic refers to the volume of data transmitted when you use the cross-region snapshot replication feature. This traffic is measured in gigabytes (GB).
Billing methods
Hologres exclusive instances support the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods. You are charged for compute, storage, and network resources. The following figure shows the billable items.
Exclusive instances of both billing methods support advanced features, such as Serverless Computing, backup and recovery, and cross-region snapshot replication. The compute, storage, and network resources that are used by advanced features are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Subscription
You can estimate the required compute and storage resources based on your business needs. You pay in advance for the Hologres service for a specific period, such as a month or a year. For more information, see Subscription.
Pay-as-you-go
You are charged for compute resources based on instance specifications and runtime, and for storage based on data volume and storage duration. Bills are generated and settled hourly. For more information, see Pay-as-you-go.
NoteYou are charged for compute resources every hour even if no jobs are running on the instance.
Billing rules for billable items
This section describes the billing rules for each billable item in Hologres for the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods. It also describes how to stop billing for each billable item.

Fee calculation
The following sections describe how fees are calculated for Hologres subscription and pay-as-you-go instances, with details provided for each region. For more information about the billing rules for billable items and how to stop billing, see Billing rules for billable items.
Sample scenarios:
Scenario 1
You purchase a subscription instance in the Singapore region for six months. You estimate that you need 64 CUs of compute and 500 GB of Standard storage per month. The upfront fee is USD 12,822.80722. This is calculated as: (31.970149 × 64 × 6) + (0.182090 × 500 × 6) = 12,822.80722. The billing logic for Infrequent Access storage is the same.
Scenario 2
You purchase a subscription instance with 100 GB of Standard storage in the Singapore region. Due to rapid business growth, your storage usage reaches 200 GB in a specific hour. You are charged an extra fee for the 100 GB of excess storage in that hour. The fee is USD 0.0379. This is calculated as: (200 - 100) × 0.000379 = 0.0379.
Scenario 3
You purchase a pay-as-you-go instance with 64 CUs of compute in the Singapore region. The Infrequent Access storage used in a specific hour is 100 GB. The total fee for that hour is USD 11.65926. This is calculated as: (0.182090 × 64 × 1) + (0.000055 × 100 × 1) = 11.65926.

Billing cycle
Hologres uses the following billing cycles:
Subscription: When you purchase a Hologres subscription instance, you pay upfront. The system sends a bill to the Alibaba Cloud account that owns the instance. If your storage usage exceeds the subscribed amount, the excess storage is billed hourly on a pay-as-you-go basis. A bill for the overage is sent every hour to the Alibaba Cloud account that owns the instance until the storage usage no longer exceeds the subscribed capacity.
Pay-as-you-go: For pay-as-you-go instances, resources are billed hourly. A bill is sent to the Alibaba Cloud account that owns the instance every hour.
Select a billing method
Hologres provides two billing methods. You can select a method based on the following suggestions and your business needs:
The pay-as-you-go billing method is ideal for development and testing projects that have sporadic jobs and small data volumes. This method allows developers and analysts to control costs by limiting resource consumption.
If your jobs are relatively stable, such as jobs that are published online after development and testing, you can consider using the subscription billing method.
