Overview of event triggers for Alibaba Cloud services

Function Compute supports two categories of triggers: native triggers (such as scheduled tasks and API operations) and cloud product event triggers. Cloud product event triggers are powered by EventBridge, which acts as a centralized event hub for virtually all Alibaba Cloud services—covering elastic computing, storage, databases, containers, big data, observability, and middleware. When an event occurs in a connected service, EventBridge routes it to your function automatically.
How it works
In an event-driven model, event sources produce events, functions process them, and triggers connect the two. EventBridge is not a single event source—it aggregates events from across Alibaba Cloud services into a unified hub. Triggers built on EventBridge let any supported Alibaba Cloud service invoke your function when a matching event occurs.

Benefits
Automatic integration
After EventBridge integrates with Function Compute, trigger sources stay in sync. Adding an event source in EventBridge automatically updates trigger sources in Function Compute—no manual reconfiguration needed.
Advanced scalability
Native OSS triggers have limited filter options. With a cloud product event trigger, you can set multiple file prefix and suffix filter conditions for an OSS trigger and associate more than 10 triggers with a single bucket. For details, see Overview of the EventBridge-type OSS trigger.
Real-time delivery with built-in reliability
EventBridge delivers events with low latency and high throughput. Events reach destination functions promptly, and the event retry and dead-letter queue (DLQ) mechanisms keep your system stable even when transient failures occur.

Limitations
Cloud product event triggers cannot be created using Serverless Devs. Use the Function Compute console or call the API instead.
