Realtime Compute for Apache Flink:Billable items

Last Updated:Sep 09, 2026

Streaming Storage Fluss uses a hybrid billing method: core cluster resources, including management, computing, storage, and base resources for lake-stream synchronization, use a subscription model, while elastic resources and cold storage use a pay-as-you-go model. This topic describes the billing components of a Fluss cluster, the pricing for each billable item, and the cluster's behavior upon expiration or overdue payment.

Billing components

The total cost of a Fluss cluster is the sum of its prepaid and postpaid components.

Total cluster cost = Prepaid component + Postpaid component

Prepaid component (subscription)

You are charged an upfront fee when you purchase the cluster. The fee is based on the specifications you select and the subscription duration.

Billable item

Description

Billing formula

control resources

The CoordinatorServer manages cluster metadata and coordinates high availability. Its specifications are fixed and cannot be configured.

Unit price for control resources × Subscription duration

compute resources

The TabletServer is the core compute node that handles data read and write operations. A minimum of three nodes is required. The general-purpose instance family is supported.

Unit price per CU × Number of nodes × CUs per node × Subscription duration

cloud disk

Each TabletServer node includes a local cloud disk to store hot data. You can select a capacity from 500 GB to 10 TB for each node.

Unit price per GB per month × Capacity per node × Number of nodes × Subscription duration

Tiering Service Basic CU

These are the base compute resources for the Tiering Service. 1 CU = 1 core + 4 GB of memory.

Unit price per CU × Number of base CUs × Subscription duration

Postpaid component (pay-as-you-go)

Charges are billed hourly based on your actual usage and automatically deducted from your account balance.

Billable item

Description

Billing method

Tiering Service Elastic CU

These are elastic compute resources that are automatically provisioned when the workload of the tiering service exceeds the capacity of the base CUs. The default scaling limit is 100 CUs, which you can modify.

Billed hourly based on the actual number of CUs used.

cold storage capacity

The amount of storage space used by data after it is tiered from local disks to object storage.

Billed hourly based on storage volume (GB) and storage duration.

cold storage read/write traffic

Data transferred when external query engines read from cold storage or during internal data tiering.

Billed hourly based on the volume of data transferred (GB).

TabletServer specifications

TabletServer is available in two specification families.

General purpose CU (recommended)

With a CPU-to-memory ratio of 1:4, this family suits most streaming storage use cases.

TabletServer compute – general-purpose CU (1:4)

The unit price is the same for single-availability zone and multi-availability zone deployments. Node price = Node size × Unit price.

For example, the monthly price for three 4-CU nodes in the China (Hangzhou) region is 3 × 4 × 21.59 = USD 259.08.

Billable item

Description

Lake-Stream Sync Elastic CU

Billed for usage exceeding the base CUs. No charges are incurred for unused elastic resources.

Cold storage capacity

Billed for the amount of data written to cold storage.

Cold storage traffic

Billed for data transfer traffic to and from cold storage.

Overdue payments and expiration

Because Streaming Storage Fluss uses a hybrid billing model, the consequences for an expired subscription differ from those for an overdue pay-as-you-go payment. For more information, see Overdue Payments and Expiration.

Renewal and scaling

Renewal

Method

Description

Manual renewal

Renew your cluster subscription in the Fluss console or in Alibaba Cloud Billing Management.

Auto-renewal

You can enable auto-renewal when you create the cluster, and the system will automatically charge your account before the subscription expires. You can also enable auto-renewal later on the instance list in the console or in Alibaba Cloud Billing Management.

Scaling

You can adjust the cluster configuration online during your subscription period.

  • Increase or decrease the number of TabletServer nodes.

  • Change the instance type (switch between General Purpose and Memory-Optimized).

  • Increase cloud disk capacity (decreases are not supported).

  • Adjust the number of basic CUs for Lake-stream Synchronization.

For a scale-up, you pay the price difference for the remainder of the subscription period. For a scale-down, the system refunds the price difference to your account balance.

Cancel subscription

You can submit a request to cancel your subscription in Alibaba Cloud Billing Management. The system refunds any remaining fees according to the refund policy. Canceling the subscription immediately releases the cluster, and all its data cannot be recovered.
