Realtime Compute for Apache Flink:Overdue payments and expiration

Last Updated:Aug 10, 2026

Fluss uses a hybrid billing model: core cluster resources are billed on a pre-paid subscription basis, while elastic resources and cold storage are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. An expired subscription and an overdue payment for pay-as-you-go items affect your cluster differently. This topic describes these impacts and how to handle them.

Expiration and overdue payment process

  • The expiration of pre-paid items and overdue payments for pay-as-you-go items are independent. If a pay-as-you-go payment is overdue, your cluster's basic read and write operations continue to operate normally as long as your pre-paid subscription is active. However, once the pre-paid subscription expires, the entire cluster enters a full service suspension, regardless of the pay-as-you-go account status.

  • After a cluster release, all data in cluster storage (including cloud disks and local disks) and cold storage is permanently deleted. To prevent data loss, renew your subscription or top up your account before it expires or a payment becomes overdue.

Pre-paid item expiration

Pre-paid resources include management resources, TabletServer compute resources, cloud disks, and base Compute Units (CUs) for lake-stream synchronization. The following table describes the cluster's behavior after expiration.

Phase

Cluster status

Recovery method

7 days before expiration

The system sends an expiration reminder via SMS. The cluster continues to operate normally.

—

Within 15 days after expiration (Service Suspension Period)

The cluster enters a full service suspension: the Real-time Compute console shows that the cluster has expired, you cannot access the cluster or perform scaling, all jobs that read from or write to Fluss fail, and lake-stream synchronization stops.

After renewal, the cluster resumes normal operation, and lake-stream synchronization resumes automatically.

More than 15 days after expiration (Overdue Period)

The cluster undergoes an automatic release. All data in cluster storage (including cloud disks and local disks) and cold storage is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Irrecoverable. You must purchase a new cluster.

Pay-as-you-go overdue payments

Pay-as-you-go resources include cold storage capacity, cold storage read/write traffic, and elastic CUs (Compute Units) for lake-stream synchronization. You can log in to the Alibaba Cloud Billing and Cost Management console and check the Total Amount Due in the Overview section on the Home page. The following table describes the cluster's behavior after a payment becomes overdue.

Phase

Cluster status

Recovery method

Within 15 days of an overdue payment (Restricted Period)

The cluster enters a partially restricted state: the Real-time Compute console shows an "Overdue bill exists" message, and scaling becomes unavailable; data cannot be written to cold storage and is written only to local disks; elastic resources for lake-stream synchronization become unavailable (if only elastic resources are configured, lake-stream synchronization is disabled). However, basic read and write operations are not affected.

Important

Writing data only to local disks uses their storage space more quickly. If the local disks become full, the cluster's basic read and write operations will also be restricted or fail.

After you settle the overdue payment, cold storage functions and elastic resources are restored.

More than 15 days after an overdue payment (Overdue Period)

Data in cold storage is cleared and historical cold data cannot be recovered, which may compromise data integrity. Elastic resources for lake-stream synchronization remain unavailable.

Historical data from cold storage cannot be recovered. After you settle the overdue payment, cold storage functions and elastic resources are restored.

Note

Alibaba Cloud offers a service suspension privilege with a grace period. This lets you continue using pay-as-you-go services for a set duration or up to a specific credit limit after a payment becomes overdue. Usage during this period is billed normally. For more information, see service suspension privilege with a grace period.

Renewal

Method

Description

Manual renewal

Renew your cluster in the Real-time Compute console or Alibaba Cloud Billing and Cost Management.

Auto-renewal

Select Auto-renewal when you create the cluster, and the system will automatically deduct the fee before expiration. You can also enable Auto-renewal later on the instance list page or the renewal management page in the console.
