Alibaba Cloud performs regular backend maintenance, such as version upgrades and patch fixes, to ensure the stability and security of your Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch (ES) clusters. You can configure a maintenance window for your ES cluster to schedule these maintenance operations during off-peak hours. This helps reduce the potential impact on your business.
Maintenance impact and risks
Different types of maintenance operations have different triggers, notification periods, and impacts on the cluster. Understanding these details helps you conduct a more thorough risk assessment and business planning. Before maintenance begins, Alibaba Cloud notifies the contacts for your account by text message, email, and internal message.
During the maintenance window, maintenance operations on the cluster may trigger node restarts. This can cause transient disconnections for clients. Therefore, your application must have a reconnection mechanism.
Before the maintenance window begins, the cluster enters a locked state (
Applying). During this locked period, you cannot perform any cluster change operations, such as upgrades, downgrades, or cluster restarts. However, data reads, writes, and queries are not affected.
Procedure
Follow these steps to set or modify the maintenance window for your ES cluster in the console.
Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Elasticsearch Clusters.
Select the resource group and region of the target cluster, and then click the cluster ID.
