Alibaba Cloud performs regular backend maintenance—such as version upgrades and patch fixes—to keep your Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch (ES) clusters stable and secure. Configure a maintenance window to schedule these operations during off-peak hours and reduce the impact on your business.
Potential impacts
Before maintenance begins, Alibaba Cloud notifies your account contacts via text message, email, and internal message. Different types of maintenance operations have different triggers, notification timelines, and cluster impacts.
During the maintenance window, be aware of the following:
-
Node restarts: Maintenance operations may trigger node restarts, causing transient disconnections. Make sure your application has a reconnection mechanism.
-
Cluster lock: Before the maintenance window starts, the cluster enters a locked state (
Applying). In this state, cluster change operations—such as upgrades, downgrades, and restarts—are blocked. Data reads, writes, and queries are not affected.
Configure the maintenance window
-
Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console. In the left navigation pane, click Elasticsearch Clusters.
-
Select the resource group and region of the target cluster, then click the cluster ID.
-
On the Basic Information page, in the Status section, find Maintenance Window and click Configure on the right.
-
In the dialog box, select a time period and click OK. All time periods are 4-hour blocks in UTC+8. Custom durations are not supported.
