Elasticsearch:High performance

Last Updated:Mar 26, 2026

Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch improves write and query performance through kernel-level optimizations, high-performance hardware, and scenario-based configuration templates. This topic describes the performance features available in Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch.

Kernel performance optimization

The Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch team continuously optimizes the AliES kernel based on real-world cloud deployment experience. The Kernel-enhanced Edition incorporates these improvements. You can use the Kernel-enhanced Edition and update the kernel version as prompted to access the latest performance gains.

The following features and plug-ins are available in the Kernel-enhanced Edition:

Feature or plug-inPerformance improvementUse case
analytic-search plug-inSignificantly reduces query timeLogging scenarios; accelerates queries on the Kibana Discover page
Physical replicationImproves write performance for indexes with replica shardsClusters with replica shards enabled
faster-bulk plug-inImproves write throughput by 20%High-volume bulk write workloads
Pruning for time series indexesImproves query performance by 30%Time series indexes
Primary key-based deduplicationImproves write performance by 10%Documents that contain primary keys
Shard scheduling by dedicated master nodesImproves shard scheduling performance by 10 times; each dedicated master node can schedule more shardsLarge clusters requiring frequent shard scheduling

For the full list of Kernel-enhanced Edition features, see Features supported by the Kernel-enhanced Edition.

High-performance hardware and high-speed access

Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch supports a range of server and storage hardware configurations, updated with the latest hardware generations to maintain cluster performance and stability. Internal network communications reduce application response latency.

Scenario-based templates

Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch provides scenario-based templates with parameters tuned based on years of experience. Select a template that matches your workload to optimize read and write performance and reduce cluster performance issues caused by inappropriate configurations.
