This topic describes how to create and manage Edge Node Service instances in the ENS console.
Usage notes
Before you create an instance, you need to activate ENS. For more information, see Activate ENS.
ENS supports multiple instance types and regions. Contact your Alibaba Cloud business manager to apply for instances and configure available specifications in the ENS console.
For information about changes and description of instance status during instance creation and management, see Instance status.
Create an instance
Log on to the ENS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
On the Instances page, click Create Instance.
In the Basic Configurations step, configure the following parameters.
Parameter
Description
Billing Method
Subscription and Pay-as-you-go are supported.
NoteThe subscription billing method supports all instance types. The pay-as-you-go billing method supports only x86-based computing instances. Select a billing method based on your business requirements.
Instance Type
x86-based computing instances, x86-based bare metal instances, and heterogeneous computing instances are supported. Select an instance type based on your business requirements.
Instance Specification
Select an instance specification based on your business requirements. For more information, see Instance overview.
NoteC refers to the number of vCPUs and G refers to the memory size. For example, 4C8G indicates that the instance has 4 vCPUs and 8 GB memory. You can also submit a ticket or contact your Alibaba Cloud business manager to apply for your required instance specifications.
Image
Custom Image and Public Image are supported.
Custom Image: You can create a custom image in the ENS console. For more information, see Create a custom image or Use the image builder to create a custom image.
Public Image: For information about third-party and open source public images, see Public images.
In the Network and Storage step, configure the following parameters.
Parameter
Description
Network
Network Hosting and Self-built Network are supported.
If you do not want to specify a custom CIDR block, select Network Hosting. Then, ENS assigns a default CIDR block.
If you select Network Hosting, you can schedule computing capacity by different network levels, including the regional level, provincial level, municipal level, and edge node level. Networks outside the Chinese mainland are also supported. If you schedule computing capacity by regional level, provincial level, or municipal level, you can enter a node scheduling policy so that ENS can choose a suitable edge node for you. If you schedule computing capacity by the edge node level or for networks outside the Chinese mainland, you can create instances within the scope of the edge node.
If you want to specify a custom CIDR block, select Self-built Network.
Region
Select a region and specify Number of Instances, Public NIC, Bandwidth Billing Method, and Max Bandwidth based on your business requirements.
If you want to access the Internet, you can assign a public IP address to the instance or configure an edge EIP and associate it with the instance. If the instance has multiple NICs, you need to specify the default NIC for the Internet.
NoteThe first time you create an instance, you need to set the billing cycle of the instance to the billing cycle of the bandwidth. The billing cycle is used as the default billing cycle of the subsequent instances that you create.
Only x86-based computing instances, x86-based physical machines, and ARM-based computing instances support public NICs.
For more information about the billing for public network usage, see Public bandwidth.
System Disk and Data Disk
Specify the type and capacity of System Disk and Data Disk based on your business requirements.
NoteThe size of the system disk must be a multiple of 10 GB and greater than or equal to 20 GB. The total size of the system disk and the data disk must be greater than or equal to the default size of the image used.
If the capacity of the system disk is larger than the default capacity of the image, resize the partitions and the file system.
The billing method of a cloud disk that is created along with an instance is the same as that of the instance.
You cannot specify a system disk or data disk for x86-based physical machines, x86-based bare metal instances, and heterogeneous bare metal instances.
Security Group
Select a security group. A security group is similar to a firewall and is used to configure network access control.
NoteThe security group feature supports x86-based computing instances and ARM-based computing instances.
In the System Settings step, configure the following parameters.
Parameter
Description
Set Password
Custom Key and Key Pair are supported.
NoteKey pairs support only Linux and x86-based computing instances, heterogeneous VMs, and ARM-based computing instances.
Instance Name
You can specify the Instance Name, Hostname, and Sequential Suffix parameters. You can also configure ordered instance names
Notein the
namePrefix[beginNumber,bits]nameSuffix
format. The sequential suffix ranges from 001 to 999.
Tags
Configure tags for the instance based on your business requirements.
Advanced Settings
User Data can be run as scripts on instance startup to automate instance configurations, or can be used as common data and passed into instances. Specify User Data in Advanced Settings based on your business requirements.
Confirm your configurations, select Terms of Service for Edge Node Service (ENS), and then click Confirm Order. For long-term use, we recommend that you select Auto Renewal.
On the payment page that appears, select Use Deduction and click Order. After the payment is complete, you are redirected to the page indicating that the payment is successful.
If you purchase a subscription instance, the payment page appears. After you complete the payment, the system starts to generate the instance.
If you purchase a pay-as-you-go instance, the system starts to create the instance.
After the instance is created, log on to the instance and check whether the data transfer is successful.
