Elastic Compute Service:What is CloudLens for EBS?

Last Updated:Apr 27, 2026

Monitor and analyze Elastic Block Storage (EBS) performance, manage storage resources, and diagnose business fluctuations across your Alibaba Cloud account.

Overview

CloudLens for EBS provides the following features:

  • Resource overview

Displays the previous day's EBS resource summary for your Alibaba Cloud account, including disk quantity, capacity, and distribution by region and category.

  • Cloud disk analysis

Collects and displays near real-time disk performance monitoring data.

  • Disk events

Reports risk events when a disk reaches performance limits or lacks snapshot backups, so you can resolve issues before data loss occurs.

    See Cloud disk event details.

  • Application management

Generates periodic disk monitoring reports and sends notifications by email or internal message, helping you plan resource allocation and optimize costs.

Benefits

  • Near real-time monitoring

Monitors disk performance at near real-time granularity, finer than the minute-level monitoring provided by ECS.

  • Multidimensional metrics

Aggregates multidimensional data beyond basic ECS metrics, including disk count, capacity, snapshot and encryption ratios, category and billing method breakdowns, and performance metrics such as read/write IOPS and throughput.

  • Automated data collection

Automatically collects EBS data, reducing manual effort in resource management.

Billing

CloudLens for EBS is free of charge.

Use cases

Sample use cases:

  • E-commerce or ticketing sites with fluctuating page views may cause disk traffic spikes and server jitter. Use CloudLens for EBS with Simple Log Service (SLS) to collect comprehensive storage performance metrics and diagnose disk performance issues.

  • If you accidentally initialize a data disk without snapshots, the data cannot be recovered. Use CloudLens for EBS to identify disks lacking snapshots and create backups to prevent data loss.

Usage notes

Note the following when using CloudLens for EBS:

  • After first enablement, the Resource Overview page takes about 10 minutes to prepare data and does not support historical data. The Cloud Disk Analysis and Cloud Disk Event pages are available immediately and support historical data.

  • CloudLens for EBS continues to monitor disks during initialization.

  • Disks attached to expired but unreleased subscription ECS instances are still monitored.

  • Historical monitoring data is unavailable for released disks.

  • Disks with multi-attach enabled cannot be monitored.
