If you temporarily require a higher data transfer speed for a subscription Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance associated with an auto-assigned public IP address in special scenarios, such as promotional events and data migration, you can use the temporary bandwidth upgrade feature to increase the public bandwidth value of the instance for a specific period of time without the need for a long-term commitment. The temporary bandwidth upgrade period can be up to six months. When the temporary bandwidth upgrade period ends, the public bandwidth is restored to the original value.
For information about how to modify the bandwidth configurations of an instance associated with an elastic IP address (EIP), see Modify the bandwidth of an EIP.
Prerequisites
The ECS instances for which you want to perform a temporary bandwidth upgrade use the subscription billing method.
The ECS instances use auto-assigned public IP addresses that are billed based on the pay-by-bandwidth metering method for network usage.
Billing
During the temporary bandwidth upgrade period, you can upgrade or downgrade the public bandwidth and change the metering method for network usage from pay-by-bandwidth to pay-by-traffic.
If you upgrade the public bandwidth, you are charged for the upgrade in addition to the temporary bandwidth upgrade fees.
If you downgrade the public bandwidth or change the metering method for network usage from pay-by-bandwidth to pay-by-traffic during the temporary bandwidth upgrade period, the temporary bandwidth upgrade is canceled and refunded.
The first time you use the temporary bandwidth upgrade feature to change the public bandwidth of subscription instances associated with auto-assigned public IP addresses in the classic network from 0 Mbit/s to a non-zero value, you must restart the instances for the temporary bandwidth upgrade to take effect. In other cases, after you perform a temporary bandwidth upgrade and complete the payment, the temporary bandwidth upgrade immediately takes effect without the need for instance restart. You cannot cancel a temporary bandwidth upgrade that is in effect or change the temporary bandwidth upgrade period.
To view the estimated costs of the temporary bandwidth upgrade, go to the Temporary Bandwidth Upgrade page.
Considerations
A temporary bandwidth upgrade does not change the public or private IP address of a subscription instance.
When you use the temporary bandwidth upgrade feature to change the public bandwidth value of an ECS instance from 0 Mbit/s to a non-zero value, a public IP address is automatically assigned to the instance. When the temporary bandwidth upgrade period ends, the public bandwidth value returns to 0 Mbit/s, and the public IP address is released or retained based on the network type of the instance. If the instance is deployed in a virtual private cloud (VPC), the public IP address is immediately released. If the instance is deployed in the classic network, the public IP address is retained.
A temporary bandwidth upgrade does not increase the baseline public bandwidth of the instance. If you renew a subscription instance before the temporary bandwidth upgrade period of the instance ends, the baseline public bandwidth of the instance is renewed.
Baseline public bandwidth refers to the public bandwidth that you purchase when you create or upgrade a subscription instance.
Limits
Limits on features
You can temporarily upgrade the public bandwidth of subscription instances associated with auto-assigned public IP addresses, but you cannot temporarily downgrade the public bandwidth.
BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines in the China (Hong Kong) region do not support temporary bandwidth upgrades.
Bandwidth limits
The peak bandwidth value for the public bandwidth of a subscription instance associated with an auto-assigned public IP address is 200 Mbit/s.
Upgrade period limits
The temporary bandwidth upgrade period of a subscription ECS instance must be within the current billing cycle of the instance. The end time of the temporary bandwidth upgrade period cannot be later than the end time of the current billing cycle. If you renewed and downgraded a subscription instance within the current billing cycle of the instance, you cannot temporarily upgrade the public bandwidth of the instance until a new billing cycle starts.
The start time and end time of the temporary bandwidth upgrade period can only be on the hour. The start time and the end time can be at least 3 hours and up to six months apart. If you want to increase the public bandwidth value of a subscription ECS instance for a period of time that is longer than six months, we recommend that you upgrade the public bandwidth (baseline public bandwidth) of the instance. For more information, see the Procedure section in the "Modify the public bandwidth configurations of an instance associated with an auto-assigned public IP address" topic.
Upgrade effectiveness limits
After the temporary bandwidth upgrade period of a subscription ECS instance starts, you cannot change the billing method of the instance or the system disk from subscription to pay-as-you-go. However, you can change the billing method of data disks on the subscription ECS instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go.
If you want to temporarily re-upgrade the public bandwidth during a temporary bandwidth upgrade period, the new public bandwidth value that you specify must be greater than the value to which the public bandwidth is temporarily upgraded in the previous temporary bandwidth upgrade. For example, if you set the public bandwidth of a subscription ECS instance to 15 Mbit/s for the temporary bandwidth upgrade period from 10:00:00 to 13:00:00 and want to temporarily re-upgrade the public bandwidth during the temporary bandwidth upgrade period, you can specify only a public bandwidth value greater than 15 Mbit/s.
Procedure
Log on to the ECS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs.
Use one of the following methods to temporarily upgrade the public bandwidth of subscription instances:
To temporarily upgrade the public bandwidth of a subscription instance, find the instance and choose
.To temporarily batch upgrade the public bandwidth of multiple subscription instances, select the instances and choose
in the lower part of the Instance page.
In the Change Subscription Instance Bandwidth dialog box, select Temporarily Upgrade Bandwidth and click Continue.
On the Temporary Bandwidth Upgrade page, configure the Bandwidth, Start Time for Upgrade, and End Time for Upgrade parameters based on your business requirements.
Read the notes, read and select ECS Service Terms, and then click Create Order. Complete the upgrade process as prompted.
What to do next
The first time you perform a temporary bandwidth upgrade to change the public bandwidth value of a subscription instance that is deployed in the classic network from 0 Mbit/s to a non-zero value, you must restart the instance in the ECS console or by calling the RebootInstances operation for the upgrade to take effect.
