If the pay-as-you-go or subscription billing method of a cloud disk does not meet your business requirements, you can perform the operations described in this topic to change the billing method of the disk.
Prerequisites
The disk whose billing method you want to change is a cloud disk. You cannot separately change the billing method of an elastic ephemeral disk or a local disk. You can change the billing method of an elastic ephemeral disk or a local disk only when you change the billing method of the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance to which the disk is attached. For more information, see Change the billing method of an instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go and Change the billing method of an instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
The billing method used by the cloud disk is subscription or pay-as-you-go. You cannot change the billing method of a cloud disk if the disk is attached to a preemptible instance or the bills of the disk are offset by a cost-saving plan such as a savings plan or a storage capacity unit (SCU).
The ECS instance to which the cloud disk is attached is in the Running or Stopped state.
The cloud disk meets the following requirements:
The cloud disk is in the In Use (In_use) state.
The multi-attach feature is disabled for the cloud disk. You cannot change the billing method of cloud disks for which the multi-attach feature is enabled. For more information, see Multi-attach for cloud disks.
The billing method of the cloud disk is not changed within the previous 5 minutes.
Procedure
You cannot separately change the billing method of a system disk. To change the billing method of a system disk, change the billing method of the ECS instance to which the disk is attached. For more information, see Change the billing method of an instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go and Change the billing method of an instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
You can refer to different topics to change the billing method of a data disk based on your business requirements.
Change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription for a cloud disk
How to change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription for a cloud disk depends on the billing method of the instance to which the disk is attached.
The disk is attached to a pay-as-you-go instance.
You can change the billing method of a cloud disk only when you change the billing method of the ECS instance to which the disk is attached. For more information, see Change the billing method of an instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
The disk is attached to a subscription instance.
Use one of the following methods to change the billing method of a cloud disk:
To change the billing method of multiple data disks of an ECS instance, we recommend that you go to the Instance page.
Go to ECS console - Instance.
In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group of the resource that you want to manage.
Click the ID of the ECS instance for which you want to change the billing method of cloud disks. On the instance details page, click All Actions in the upper-right corner and then choose Upgrade.
On the Upgrade Configuration page, select the pay-as-you-go data disks whose billing method you want to change in the Billing Method of Disks section.
The billing method of the selected data disks changes from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
If you want to change the billing method of a specific data disk, we recommend that you perform the operations on the Block Storage page.
Go to ECS console - Block Storage.
In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group of the resource that you want to manage.
Find the data disk whose billing method you want to change and choose
in the Actions column. In the Billing Method of Disks section, check the selected cloud disk.
Read the upgrade instructions, select ECS Terms of Service, and then click Confirm Order.
Complete the payment and confirm that the billing method of the cloud disk is changed to subscription.
ImportantAfter you change the billing method of the cloud disk to subscription, the disk cannot be detached.
Change the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go for a cloud disk
The disk is attached to a subscription instance.
Subscription cloud disks can be attached only to subscription instances. Pay-as-you-go instances do not support subscription cloud disks.
You may receive a refund when you use the configuration downgrade feature to change the billing method of a data disk from subscription to pay-as-you-go. The refund amount is the difference between the price of the new configurations and the remaining price of the original configurations.
