Terminating a Data Transmission Service (DTS) instance permanently stops data transmission and prevents the source database from overwriting data in the destination database. This action is irreversible — a terminated instance enters the Completed state and cannot be restarted. If you need to resume syncing, you must reconfigure the instance from scratch.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
A data synchronization or migration instance. See Overview of data synchronization scenarios and Overview of data migration scenarios to create one.
An instance that is running and not in the Completed state.
Usage notes
Change tracking instances cannot be terminated. To stop a change tracking instance, release it instead. See Release DTS instances.
After termination, the instance enters the Completed state and cannot be restarted. To use it again, reconfigure the instance.
Terminate an instance
The following steps use a data synchronization instance as an example.
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
In the top navigation bar, click Data + AI.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose DTS (DTS) > Data Synchronization.
Steps may vary depending on the DMS console mode and layout. See Simple mode and Customize the layout and style of the DMS console. You can also go directly to the Data Synchronization Tasks page of the new DTS console.
On the right side of Data Synchronization Tasks, select the region where the instance resides.
In the new DTS console, select the region in the top navigation bar.
Select the instance you want to terminate.
In the lower part of the page, click Stop Task.
For an instance in the Running state, click the
icon and select Stop Task.In the confirmation dialog, click OK.
What to do next
After terminating the instance, remove the DTS server CIDR blocks from your database security settings to prevent DTS from accessing those databases again. See the "CIDR blocks of DTS servers" table in Add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers for the full list.
Remove CIDR blocks from the following locations based on your database type:
| Database type | Action |
|---|---|
| Alibaba Cloud database instances | Remove IP address whitelists whose names contain dts |
| ECS instances | Remove security groups whose names contain DTS |
| Self-managed or third-party cloud platform databases | Remove the DTS server CIDR blocks from the security settings |
