Last Updated:Jun 02, 2026

Alibaba Cloud DNS sends operation change notifications and throttling alert notifications to help you monitor DNS activity.

Operation change notifications

Notification content

  • Deleting a zone

  • Binding or unbinding a zone to or from a VPC

  • Deleting a DNS record

  • Modifying a DNS record

  • Disabling a DNS record

    Important
    • Notifications are not sent when you add a zone or enable a DNS record.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Common Settings page.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, under Message Settings, click Common Settings. Select Alibaba Cloud DNS Operation Notification and set the recipient to account contact.

    Important
    • Other notification types are available, such as overdue payments and instance expiration and release.

    • Notification methods: Internal Message, Email, and SMS (SMS is available only on the China site).

    • To change contacts for a notification type, click Modify next to it.

Throttling alerts

PrivateZone throttles DNS queries from VPC endpoints (ECS instances and containers) based on the following QPS thresholds:

Limit

Limit Threshold

Total DNS queries per ECS instance in a VPC

5,000 queries/second

Total DNS queries from all ECS instances in a VPC

Unlimited

External recursive queries per ECS instance in a VPC

600 queries/second

Total external recursive queries from all ECS instances in a VPC

5,000 queries/second

When an endpoint exceeds these thresholds, PrivateZone triggers throttling. You can receive alerts in two ways:

  • Method 1: Enable DNS traffic analysis for PrivateZone to view throttling alert history in the global traffic analysis report.

  • Method 2: Subscribe to events. PrivateZone sends alert notifications to specified contacts when throttling occurs. Configure this subscription as follows.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Cloud Monitor console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Event Center > Event Subscription.

  3. On the Subscription Policy tab, click Create Subscription Policy.

  4. On the Create Subscription Policy page, set Subscription Type to system event. Under Subscription Scope, set Product to PrivateZone, Event Type to Status Notification, Event Name to The DNS request QPS of the current account exceeds the limit, and Event Level to Warning. Keep Application Group as All Application Groups. Under Alert Suppression, select Trigger Immediately Without Suppression. Under Notification, select an existing notification configuration. Click Submit.

    Important

To customize alert contacts, click Create Notification Configuration in the notification configuration section. Cloud Monitor automatically populates the Contact Group with your alert contacts. Manage notification configurations.
