You can create a dedicated host (DDH) by specifying its billing method, region, and dedicated host type. This topic shows you how to create a DDH on the ECS console.
Prerequisites
You have an Alibaba Cloud account with the required setup. For more information, see Before you begin.
Procedure
-
Log on to the ECS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the upper-left corner of the page, select a region and resource group.
-
Click Create DDH.
If this is your first time creating a dedicated host, click Create Now.
-
On the creation page, configure the following parameters.

Example
Billing Method
Select a billing method. Valid values: Subscription and Pay-as-you-go.
For more information about billing, see Billing overview.

Region and Zone
Select the region and zone where you want to create the DDH.
For more information about regions and zones, see Regions and zones.

Host Type
The dedicated host type determines the instance families and number of ECS instances that you can run on the DDH. Oversubscription-enabled host types let you customize the vCPU-to-memory ratio, offering more flexibility when you create ECS instances.
For more information about dedicated host types, see Dedicated host types.
ImportantECS instances on local SSD-type DDHs, such as i2, cannot be manually or automatically migrated if the host fails. If a local SSD-type DDH fails, you can submit a ticket to request a manual migration, but note that data on the local disks will be lost after the migration.

Host Name
Enter a name for the dedicated host. The name must be 2 to 128 characters in length. It must start with a letter or a Chinese character and can contain digits, periods (.), underscores (_), colons (:), and hyphens (-).

Other Settings
Only some dedicated host types support the following features. The availability of these features depends on the selected dedicated host type.
-
Automatic Deployment:
-
Enabled: The system automatically deploys ECS instances on the DDH. For more information, see Configure automatic deployment.
-
Disabled: You must manually deploy ECS instances by specifying this DDH when you create an instance.
Default: Enabled.
-
-
Automatic migration on host failure:
-
Enabled: If the DDH fails, its ECS instances are automatically migrated to a healthy host.
-
Disabled: If the DDH fails, you must submit a ticket to request a replacement.
Default: Enabled. You can change this setting after the DDH is created. For more information, see Configure automatic migration for a DDH.
ImportantLocal SSD-type DDHs do not support automatic migration on host failure.

CPU oversubscription ratio: This parameter is available only for oversubscription-enabled host types. The CPU oversubscription ratio determines the number of available vCPUs on a DDH. The number of available vCPUs is calculated by using the following formula: Number of available vCPUs = Number of physical CPU cores × 2 × CPU oversubscription ratio. For workloads that are not sensitive to CPU performance stability, such as in development and testing environments, you can increase this ratio to get more vCPUs. This lets you deploy more ECS instances of the same specifications and reduces per-unit deployment costs.
For example, a g6s dedicated host has 52 physical CPU cores. If you set the CPU oversubscription ratio to 4, the total number of vCPUs displayed after the DDH is created is 416.
ImportantFor more information about oversubscription-enabled host types, see Dedicated host types.
Keep the default settings.
Duration

Terms of Service
Read and select the terms of service.
Select Dedicated Host Terms of Service.
-
-
Review the host configuration, read the terms of service, and click Confirm Order.
-
In the Confirm Order dialog box, verify the configuration details and click Create Order.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the payment.
Result
You are redirected to the Dedicated Hosts page, where you can view the new DDH. The DDH is ready for use when its status changes to Running. If the DDH does not appear immediately, wait a moment and then refresh the page.
Next steps
