DataWorks:Viewing bills

Last Updated:Mar 26, 2026

DataWorks bills appear in the Alibaba Cloud Expenses and Costs console, organized by region and billing method. This topic explains how to find your bill and how each billing entry maps to a DataWorks resource.

Before you begin, read the DataWorks billing overview to understand how DataWorks charges are structured.

Billing scope

Bills are aggregated by region because DataWorks tracks usage at the tenant level across all workspaces. You cannot filter costs by workspace or by individual user.

If you see unexpected charges from an inactive workspace, see Why inactive workspaces incur charges.

View purchased resources and services

Click Purchased Resources and Services to see all activated DataWorks services, listed by region.

Note

Only Alibaba Cloud accounts and Resource Access Management (RAM) users with the AliyunBSSFullAccess permission have access. For more information about how to grant permissions, see Manage a RAM role's permissions.

  1. Click Bill Details to open the Bill Details page in Expenses and Costs.

If you are accustomed to the previous version, you can switch to the old Bill Details page. This topic describes the procedure for the new Bill Details page only.
  2. Select Bill Generation Date. Then, set Product Name to DataWorks and select Commodity Name to search for the corresponding bill.

Understand bill details

DataWorks supports two billing methods: pay-as-you-go and subscription.

Billing method How charges are aggregated
Pay-as-you-go Charges are consolidated by billable item category within each region (for example, the number of Data Quality check instances). Bills cannot be broken down by workspace.
Subscription Charges are based on the number of subscription services purchased per region. Each subscription instance is a separate billing entry. Resource groups (general-purpose, exclusive for scheduling, exclusive for Data Integration, and exclusive for DataService Studio) are each billed separately. DataWorks Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition are billed per region.

Bill fields

Field Description
Bill Generation Date The date range for the query. Select By Month or By Day. DataWorks aggregates data at the billing instance level.
Billing entries The number of entries depends on the relationship between billable items and billing instances. Pay-as-you-go items generate one billing instance per item type per region. Advanced editions generate one billing instance per edition per region. Subscription resource groups have a one-to-many relationship between billable items and billing instances.
Instance ID A unique identifier generated per billable item per region. For pay-as-you-go, DataWorks aggregates usage at the tenant level across all workspaces, so each item type (for example, scheduling instances, baseline instances, alert phone calls, and Data Quality checks) becomes a separate billing instance per region. For subscription, each edition and each purchased resource group generates a separate billing instance.
Billing Item Name The name of the billable item. For descriptions of each item, see the billing overview.

The following table describes the bill details.

Component

Description

Bill Generation Date

You can query bill details for a specified date range, either By Month or By Day. DataWorks aggregates statistics at the billing instance level.

Billing entries

The number of entries depends on the relationship between billable items and billing instances.

  • Pay-as-you-go items are charged by region, not by workspace. Therefore, a separate billing instance is generated for each type of pay-as-you-go billable item in each region.

  • DataWorks advanced editions are activated by region. Therefore, a separate billing instance is generated for each subscription-based advanced edition in the same region.

  • Subscription resource groups are charged based on the number of resource groups that you purchase in each region. Each resource group is a separate billable item in the billing system. A one-to-many relationship exists between subscription-based exclusive resource group billable items and billing instances.

Instance ID

Billing instances are generated based on the billable item and region.

  • Number of pay-as-you-go billing instances: In each region, a separate billing instance is generated for each type of pay-as-you-go (post-paid) billable item. Each category is a separate entry.

For example, pay-as-you-go services such as the number of scheduling instances, the number of baseline instances, the usage of alert phone calls, and the number of Data Quality checks are separate billable items in the billing system. DataWorks aggregates usage at the tenant level across all workspaces. Therefore, each type of pay-as-you-go billable item becomes a separate billing instance in the billing system.

  • Number of subscription billing instances:

    • DataWorks Standard Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition are activated by region. Therefore, a separate billing instance is generated for each edition in the same region.

    • Subscription services are charged based on the number of resource groups that you purchase in each region. Each subscription service that an Alibaba Cloud account purchases becomes a separate billing instance in the billing system.

Billing Item Name

For more information about each billable item, see Overview.

Why inactive workspaces incur charges

Even when a workspace is inactive, two types of resources can continue generating charges.

Scheduled tasks

Recurring tasks that are still enabled consume shared resource group scheduling instances and baseline instances, both billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. To stop these charges, disable the workspace.

After you disable a workspace, recurring scheduling tasks stop generating new instances. However, engine resources (such as storage) remain active and may incur fees billed by the engine service. These fees are not included in your DataWorks bill. For engine billing rules, see the documentation for the relevant engine.

Active subscriptions

If auto-renewal is enabled, charges occur at the end of each subscription period. To stop these charges, disable auto-renewal. For details, see Stop billing.
