Alert contacts receive notifications when a task triggers an alert rule. DataWorks sends alert messages by text message or email in the language you configure. If a message cannot be delivered to the primary contact, it is forwarded to the alternate alert contact.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
-
A Resource Access Management (RAM) user or RAM role created and added to your DataWorks workspace. See Create a RAM user and Add members to a workspace.
-
One of the following roles: Alibaba Cloud account owner, RAM user with the
AliyunDataWorksFullAccesspermission, tenant administrator, or security administrator. Alternatively, a custom role granted permissions to view alert resources, set the maximum number of alerts, and view contacts. See Create a custom RAM policy.
Before you configure
Review these constraints before you begin:
-
Country code required: All mobile phone numbers must include a country code. For example, enter a Chinese mainland number as
86139********. -
Phone call alerts: Supported only for mobile numbers in the Chinese mainland. Alibaba Cloud International Website accounts using a Chinese mainland number receive only Chinese text messages. If an account on the Alibaba Cloud International Website uses a mobile number from the Chinese mainland to receive alerts, only Chinese text messages are supported.
-
Non-Chinese mainland numbers: To send alerts to mobile numbers outside the Chinese mainland, create a custom webhook service. DataWorks pushes messages to your webhook service, which then forwards them to the number.
-
Alert language scope: The alert language configured in Management Center also applies to Operation Center. When an alert rule triggers, Operation Center sends notifications in the same language by text message or email.
-
Contact info sync: If a contact's information changes outside of DataWorks, the contact must log on to DataWorks once to trigger the update.
-
Fallback behavior: If the email addresses of both the primary alert contact and the alternate alert contact are incorrect, DataWorks forwards alert messages to the recipient configured for messages about overdue payments, service suspensions, and upcoming releases. This recipient is configured in the Basic Receiving Management section of your Alibaba Cloud account. In this case, the alert contacts and alternate alert contacts configured in DataWorks cannot receive alert messages.
-
Activation required: After adding a contact method, its status is Waiting for Activation. The method only takes effect after activation. The activation link sent by text message or email is valid for 24 hours.

Set an alternate alert contact
If a primary alert message fails because the recipient's contact information is incorrect, DataWorks automatically forwards the alert to the alternate alert contact. The alternate contact can be a RAM user or RAM role in the workspace.
On the Alert Contacts page, configure the alternate alert contact in the same way as a primary contact.
