DataWorks:Configure a periodic notification for governance issues

Last Updated:Dec 14, 2023

DataWorks allows you to configure notifications for governance issues that are displayed on the Governance issues page based on your business requirements. The system sends the notifications to specified personnel by system message, email, or DingTalk group message. This way, the governance issues can be viewed and handled at the earliest opportunity. This topic describes how to configure a periodic notification.

Limits

  • Only RAM users to which the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy is attached or tenant administrators can add periodic notifications from the global perspective. For information about permission management, see Overview.

  • Only workspace administrators, tenant administrators, or RAM users to which the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy is attached can add periodic notifications from the workspace perspective. For information about permission management, see Manage permissions on workspace-level services.

  • Common users can add periodic notifications only from the personal perspective.

Go to the Notification settings page

  1. Go to the Data Governance Center page.

    1. Log on to the DataWorks console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Modeling and Development > DataStudio. On the page that appears, select the desired workspace from the drop-down list and click Go to DataStudio.

    2. On the DataStudio page, click the Icon icon in the upper-left corner and choose All Products > Data Governance > Data Governance Center.

  2. In the top navigation bar of the Data Governance Center page, click Configuration. In the left-side navigation pane, click Notification settings. The Notification settings page appears.

You can also click Workbench in the top navigation bar of the Data Governance Center page. In the left-side navigation pane, click Governance issues. On the page that appears, click the Notification icon in the upper-right corner to go to the Notification settings page.

Add a periodic notification

On the Notification settings page, you can select a perspective and add a periodic notification for governance issues from this perspective based on your business requirements.

  1. Select a perspective from which you want to add and configure a periodic notification for governance issues.

The following perspectives are supported: global perspective, personal perspective, and workspace perspective. You can select a perspective based on your business requirements.

    • Global perspective: You can add periodic notifications for the governance issues in all DataWorks workspaces of a specific tenant.

    • Workspace perspective: You can add periodic notifications for the governance issues in a DataWorks workspace in which you are assigned the Workspace Manager role. After you click Workspace perspective on the Notification settings page, you can select a workspace from the Workspace drop-down list.

      Note

If you log on to the DataWorks console with your Alibaba Cloud account or as a RAM user to which the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy is attached, you can select all workspaces from the Workspace drop-down list.

    • Personal perspective: You can add periodic notifications for the governance issues of which you are the owner.

  2. Click Add notice. In the Periodic notification settings dialog box, configure the parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    ON

Specifies whether to enable periodic notification. You can turn on or off the switch to enable or disable periodic notification.

    Notification event

The governance issues for which the periodic notification is configured. You can add and configure periodic notifications only for the governance issues on the Governance issues page.

    Event scope

The scope of governance issues. The value varies based on the selected perspective.

    • Global perspective: The system sends the periodic notification for the governance issues in all DataWorks workspaces of a specific tenant by default.

    • Workspace perspective: The system sends the periodic notification for the governance issues in a DataWorks workspace in which you are assigned the Workspace Manager role by default.

    • Personal perspective: The system sends the periodic notification for the governance issues of which you are the owner.

    Push time

The notification pushing days. The system sends the periodic notification at the top of the hour that is later than the time when all data of the current notification pushing day is generated. In most cases, the time is 10:00.

    Note

The system can send periodic notifications on business days from Monday to Friday.

    Notification method

The method that is used to send the periodic notification to specified personnel. Valid values: System message, Mail, and DingTalk group message.

    • If you select System message, you can view the periodic notification on the Governance reminder page. To go to this page, perform the following steps: In the top navigation bar of the Data Governance Center page, click Workbench. In the left-side navigation pane, click Governance reminder in the My task section.

    • If you select DingTalk group message, you must configure a DingTalk chatbot. For more information, see Scenario practices: Send alert notifications to a DingTalk group.

    Notification object

The specified role or member to which the periodic notification for governance issues is sent. After you configure this parameter, only the specified role or member can receive the periodic notification.

    • Role:

      • If the global perspective is selected, you can select only the tenant owner or tenant administrator.

      • If the workspace perspective is selected, you can select a role in the current workspace.

      • If the personal perspective is selected, you do not need to configure the Role parameter.

    • Member:

  3. Manage the notification.

You can perform operations on the added periodic notification, such as editing, deleting, enabling, or disabling the periodic notification. After you delete or disable a periodic notification, the system no longer sends the periodic notification to specified personnel.

  4. View the details of the periodic notification.

After the configuration is complete, the alert contact can receive the periodic notification about governance issues. The details of the periodic notification include the overview of the governance issues and the details of the governance issues from the dimensions such as computing, storage, and R&D.

    • Overview of the governance issues: the total number of governance issues, the total number of tables involved, and the total number of nodes involved.

    • Dimensions:

      • Computing: the total number of issues, the number of nodes involved, consumed CUs, and top N governance issues (based on the number of issues).

      • Storage: the total number of issues, the number of tables involved, consumed storage resources, and top N governance issues (based on the number of issues).

      • R&D: the total number of issues, the number of nodes involved, the number of tables involved, and top N governance issues (based on the number of issues).

    Note
    • In order to avoid excessive reminders or inefficient governance, if there is no issue under a governance dimension or does not meet the default governance threshold requirements of the system, the notification will not include the statistical information of the dimension.

    • The thresholds for each dimension are as follows:

      • If the number of issues to be governed in the R&D dimension is less than or equal to 50, the governance statistics of this dimension are not displayed.

      • If the total storage consumption of the to-be-governed issues of the storage dimension is less than or equal to 512 MB, the governance statistics of this dimension are not displayed.

      • If the total computing consumption of the to-be-governed issues for a computing dimension is less than or equal to 50 CUs, the governance statistics of this dimension are not displayed.

    • If the R&D, storage, and computing dimensions do not meet the notification threshold, or the overall governance issues to be resolved is 0, no message notification is sent.
