Database Backup (DBS) provides features such as full backup, incremental backup, and data restoration. This topic describes the methods that are provided by DBS to help you back up and manage databases.

Back up databases

The following table describes the methods to back up and manage databases.

MethodDescriptionIntended userAdvantage
Method 1: (Recommended) Create a backup schedule for a single databaseYou can purchase a backup schedule for the database that you want to back up and perform simple configurations for the backup schedule. Individual users or small-sized enterprises
  • Ease of use
  • Efficiency
Method 2: Add a database to DBS as a data source and create a backup schedule for the data source

You need to only add databases to DBS as data sources once. Then, you can create backup schedules for the data sources and manage backups on demand.

You can add ApsaraDB instances and self-managed databases of different database engines to DBS as data sources for management. For information about supported database engines, see Supported data sources.

Large-sized enterprises
  • Ease of use
  • Convience in managjement

Method 1: (Recommended) Create a backup schedule for a single database

  1. Purchase a backup schedule.
You must purchase a backup schedule for the database that you want to back up.
  2. Configure a backup schedule.
After you configure the backup schedule, DBS automatically backs up the database based on your configurations.
  3. Optional:Restore a database.
After a backup is created, you can restore the database based on your business requirements.
Note DBS provides a sandbox solution based on copy data management (CDM). You can use the sandbox feature of DBS to create a sandbox instance to restore data in a backup set in a short period of time. For more information, see Use the emergency recovery feature of an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.

Method 2: Add a database to DBS as a data source and create a backup schedule for the data source

  1. Add a data source.
After you add a database to DBS as a data source, you can back up and manage the data source on demand.
  2. Create a backup policy template.
A backup policy template contains configuration items for a backup schedule, such as the backup method, storage method, backup frequency, backup cycle, backup start time, and storage pools.
  3. Back up databases.
You must select a backup policy template when you create a backup schedule. Then, DBS backs up the data source based on the backup policy template of the backup schedule.
  4. Optional:Restore a database.
After a backup is created, you can restore the database based on your business requirements.
Note DBS provides a sandbox solution based on CDM. You can use the sandbox feature of DBS to create a sandbox instance to restore data in a backup set in a short period of time. For more information, see Use the emergency recovery feature of an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.
