Exterior design

The front panel of a Data Transport Micro device is designed with LED indicators that indicate the device status, network status, and hard disk status. The rear panel of a Data Transport Micro device is designed with the power button, High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port, network ports, USB ports, and power supply ports. Portability

You can use battery power or electric power to run a Data Transport Micro device. The device is compact in size, which is similar to a 16 K book with a mere 6-centimeter thickness, and weighs only 2.5 kg (including the weight of hard disks). This allows you to carry it effortlessly or place it in a backpack, enhancing device portability.

  • A Data Transport Micro device can be stored in environments ranging from -40°C to 60°C, and implements stable and reliable operation in environments ranging from 0°C to 30°C.

  • A Data Transport Micro device is compliant with the military-grade MIL-STD-810G-514.6E-1 simulation test for anti-vibration. Its all-metal casing is capable of withstanding a pressure of up to 100 kg.

High data security

  • To log on to the device console, you must pass the two-factor authentication by using a username, password, and system identifier (SID). This prevents device intrusion through the device console.

  • A Data Transport Micro device comes with a tamper-resistant casing and anti-tampering labels, ensuring data security during device shipment.

  • Data in a Data Transport Micro device can be encrypted by using the AES-256 encryption algorithm.

  • You can specify a custom password for the storage pool. Before you use a Data Transport Micro device, you must pass the password authentication to decrypt the storage pool. After data migration is complete, you can encrypt the storage pool and lock the device.

Device status checking

  • The LED indicators allow you to quickly determine the status of the device, network, and four hard disks.

  • You can check the status of hard disks and storage pools and create a shared folder.

  • You can use the Alibaba Cloud app to view the monitoring data of the device, CPU, memory, and network. You can also view the remaining storage capacity.

Guaranteed data security

After data migration is complete, Alibaba Cloud technical support removes the data from the device.

Scenarios

A Data Transport Micro device can meet your various requirements for edge data processing, such as the computing, transmission, and storage of edge data. The following section describes the typical scenarios:

Autonomous vehicle data collection

A Data Transport Micro device can be used to collect and transmit vehicle data. A vehicle may generate several terabytes of data every day. The data needs to be stored in the cloud or a specified data center in a timely manner. Common external hard disks do not support cloud integration, failing to offer adequate security. Traditional servers are difficult to move and cannot meet specific requirements for vibration resistance, power supply, and space constraints. A Data Transport Micro device is compact and sturdy, consumes less power, ensures data security, as well as simplifies and improves vehicle data collection.

Data collection and migration

For example, you need to migrate data from edge locations, data centers, and special environments to the cloud or a specified data center. However, the network bandwidth is insufficient or unavailable for security reasons. In this case, you can use a Data Transport Micro device. A Data Transport Micro device supports up to 20 TB of storage capacity. Hundreds of terabytes of storage capacity can be provided if you use multiple devices. Various security measures are provided to ensure data security during the device shipment process.

Data distribution or sharing

Many industries require secure and rapid distribution and sharing of cloud data and data from data centers with partners or specified users. The industries include airlines, film studios, hospitals, genetic companies, and financial institutions. With a compact design, a Data Transport Micro device provides sufficient storage capacity, offers portability, occupies a small amount of space, and guarantees data security. You can use a Data Transport Micro device to transmit data offline between Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS), File Storage NAS (NAS), cloud disks, and on-premises data centers in a secure manner.

Computing and storage of data from edge nodes

In some cases, data needs to be generated and collected on site or at specified locations, such as film and television shooting, drone data collection, specialized terrain mapping, disaster site investigations, and public safety operations. A Data Transport Micro device offers portability, security, durability, and flexible data transmission methods. It also provides 4 CPU cores and 8 GB of memory for computing and four 8 TB of standard SSDs for storage even in constrained environments. For example, when a film shooting task is complete, data can be stored in a Data Transport Micro device. After initial processing like cropping, upload the data to the cloud or a specified data center for further sophisticated tasks like rendering.

Industrial IoT

Internet of Things (IoT) systems are used to monitor and analyze data from locations such as factories, mines, oil fields, and pipelines in a centralized manner. Bandwidth is limited or even no network is available in these locations. The space in workshops and other industrial places is valuable. In most cases, no additional space is available for a data processing device. The compact design of a Data Transport Micro device allows for easy installation or attachment to a surface.
