When you provide hosted O&M services for your customers as a service provider, you can access and perform O&M operations on Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances by using Workbench. However, Workbench-based access cannot meet the O&M requirements. To resolve this issue, you can access the ECS instance by using Virtual Network Console (VNC). For example, you can use this method in the scenario where a GUI is required to perform O&M operations on an ECS instance that runs the Windows operating system. This topic describes how to access an ECS instance by using VNC.
Create a hosted O&M service
This section describes how to create a hosted O&M service that supports the VNC-based access feature.
Log on to the Compute Nest console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click My Services. On the Created Services tab of the My Services page, click Create Service.
On the Create Service page, configure the service information.
In this example, only the parameters that are required to create the hosted O&M service that supports the VNC-based access feature are described. For more information about other parameters, see Create a private service.
In the Service O&M (Optional) section, click Add O&M Operation. In the Add O&M Operation dialog box, configure the following parameters.
Set the O&M Object parameter to Compute Nest.
In the Obtain Permissions section, select All Permissions or Terminal Logon Permissions.
Select Obtain VNC Logon Information from Customers.
ImportantYou can select Obtain VNC Logon Information from Customers only if you select All Permissions or Terminal Logon Permissions in the Obtain Permissions section and do not configure the Available Services parameter.
Click Create Service.
Create a service instance
After you create a hosted O&M service, you can access the ECS instance by using VNC only after your customer configures the information required for VNC-based access when your customer creates a service instance. This section describes how to create a service instance. You can create a service instance and configure the information required for VNC-based access as a customer to test the VNC-based access feature.
Access the deployment URL of the hosted O&M service instance.
On the Create Service Instance page, configure the parameters.
In the Service Instance Name field, enter the name of the service instance as prompted.
Set the O&M Object parameter to Alibaba Cloud Resource.
NoteTo use the VNC-based access feature, you must set the O&M Object parameter to Alibaba Cloud Resource.
Select a region from the Cloud Resource Region drop-down list.
In the Select Cloud Resource section, select ECS instance as the resource type and select the cloud resources that you want to manage.
In the VNC Logon Credential section, enter the VNC password, logon name, and logon password of the selected ECS instances.
For more information about the VNC password, logon name, and logon password of the ECS instance, see Create an instance on the Custom Launch tab and Connect to an instance by using VNC.
NoteIf the VNC password, logon name, and logon password of multiple ECS instances that you select are the same, select Unified Configuration for VNC Logon and configure the relevant parameters.
In the O&M Window section, set the time range in which you want to perform O&M operations.
Read Terms of Service, select the check box, and then click Create.
Use VNC to log on to the ECS instance
After the service instance is created, you can use VNC to log on to the ECS instance and perform O&M operations on the ECS instance.
Log on to the Compute Nest console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Service Instance. On the Service Instance page, click the Customer's Service Instances tab.
On the Customer's Service Instances tab, click the Hosted O&M Service tab. On the Hosted O&M Service tab, find the service instance on which you want to perform O&M operations.
Click the service instance name to go to the Service Instance Details page. On the Service Instance Details page, click the Resources tab.
On the Resources tab, find the ECS instance on which you want to perform O&M operations and click Remote Connection in the Actions column.
In the Remote Connection dialog box, select VNC Remote Access and click Log On.
On the VNC-based logon page, log on to and manage the ECS instance.
The method to connect to and perform O&M operations on ECS instances varies in the Windows and Linux operating systems.
Log on to a Windows instance
On the VNC-based logon page, press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE shortcut key to unlock the logon page.
Click Enter Logon Name and Enter Password. The system automatically enters the logon name and password to log on to the ECS instance.
Perform the required O&M operations in the Windows GUI.
Log on to a Linux instance
On the VNC-based logon page, click Enter Logon Name and Enter Password. The system automatically enters the logon name and password to log on to the ECS instance.
In the command line of the operating system, perform the required O&M operations.
