Cloud Backup:Back up NAS files

Last Updated:Jun 20, 2026

You can use Cloud Backup to back up NAS files from an ECS instance. You can then restore these files if they are lost or damaged. This topic shows you how to back up NAS files from an ECS instance.

Prerequisites

You have completed the steps in Prerequisites.

Step 1: Create an ECS file backup client

To create an ECS file backup client:

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Back Up > ECS File Backup.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select the region where the target ECS instance is located.

  4. On the ECS File Backup page, click New Version.

  5. On the ECS Instances tab, find the target instance, and in the Actions column, click More > Reinstall Client.

  6. After a few minutes, the client's status on the ECS Instances tab changes to Installed.

Step 2: Create a backup plan

After the client is installed, create a backup plan:

  1. Find the ECS instance and, in the Actions column, click Back Up.

  2. On the Create Backup Plan page, configure the parameters as described in the following table, and then click Create.

The following table describes the parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Plan name

The name of the backup plan. This parameter is optional. If you leave it empty, the system assigns a random name.

    Source paths

Enter the path to the NAS mount target.

    Start time

The time when the backup plan starts. You can specify the time down to the second.

    Backup interval

The frequency of incremental backups. Valid units: hours, days, and weeks.

    Retention period

How long to retain backups. Valid units: days, weeks, months, and years.

    Enable traffic shaping

Traffic shaping limits the bandwidth for backups during peak business hours to minimize service impact.

    Note

If you select Yes, you need to select a throttling time period based on your business requirements, enter the maximum traffic that can be used for backups during the throttling time period, and then click Add.

After a backup plan is created, you can view it on the Backup Plans tab. The system then performs NAS backups according to the plan. You can also click Run Now to run the plan immediately.

In the Actions column of the target backup plan, click More > Run now.

You can monitor the progress of the backup job on the Backup Jobs tab.

    Note

The task list displays backup job records from the last six months only. To access older records, export them using the Reports and Audits feature.

When a backup job completes, its Status changes to Completed, and its progress shows 100%.
