Cloud Backup:Where is the backup data of SQL Server databases stored? On the cloud or on on-premises servers?

Last Updated:Mar 18, 2024

The backup data of SQL Server databases is uploaded and saved to the cloud. No backup data is stored on on-premises servers.

If you use Cloud Backup to back up SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle databases that are deployed on on-premises servers, the backup data is uploaded and saved to backup vaults on the cloud over an Alibaba Cloud internal network.

You can use Cloud Backup to back up Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances, ECS-hosted databases, ECS files, Apsara File Storage NAS file systems, and Object Storage Service (OSS) buckets. You can also use Cloud Backup to back up files, databases, virtual machines (VMs), and large-scale file systems from self-managed data centers. Cloud Backup allows you to implement disaster recovery and archive data based on archive policies. For more information, see What is Cloud Backup.
