Cloud Backup:Get started with data archiving

Last Updated:Jun 22, 2026

You can archive and analyze files on on-premises NAS file systems, Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) file systems, and S3-Compatible Storage buckets in the Cloud Backup console.

To archive data in the Cloud Backup console, perform the following steps:

Data archiving process

  1. Activate Cloud Backup

Activating Cloud Backup is free. You are charged for archive vault rental fees and storage capacity. For more information, see Billing methods and billable items.

  2. Install the client

Install the Cloud Backup client on your on-premises server to archive data.

  3. Add a data source

Add a data source so that Cloud Backup can discover the on-premises NAS file system, HDFS file system, or S3-Compatible Storage bucket that you want to archive.

  4. Archive data and Analyze a data source

Create an archive plan to configure settings such as the archive vault, archive rules, archive interval, and archive path. Cloud Backup runs the plan to continuously archive data. You can also use visual analytics to view statistics about the data source and set archive filters based on the results.

  5. Search for and retrieve files

Search for and retrieve files from a data source or an archive vault.
