Bastionhost:Use the storage management feature

Last Updated:Mar 31, 2026

Bastionhost stores two types of audit data: session videos and TEXT-format session records. As audit data accumulates, storage fills up—and if you do not configure retention policies, Bastionhost overwrites the oldest data. Use the storage management feature to monitor current usage, set retention durations, and delete data you no longer need.

How it works

Bastionhost manages the two data types independently:

Data typeManagement sections
Session videosAutomatic Deletion of Session Videos, Manual Deletion of Session Videos
TEXT-format session recordsSession Automatic Cleanup

Behavior when storage is full:

Automatic deletionBehavior
EnabledBastionhost deletes the oldest session data.
DisabledBastionhost overwrites the oldest session data.

View storage usage

  1. Log on to the Bastionhost console. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your bastion host resides.

  2. In the bastion host list, find the bastion host you want to manage and click Manage.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click System Settings.

  4. On the System Settings page, click the Storage Management tab.

  5. In the Storage Status section, view the storage occupied by session videos and log backup files.

Configure automatic deletion of session videos

Enable automatic deletion and set a maximum retention duration. When data reaches the configured age limit, Bastionhost deletes it automatically. If the size of the remaining session data still exceeds the maximum storage, Bastionhost automatically deletes the session data that is stored at the earliest time.

Note

Valid values: 1–9999. Default value: 180. Unit: days.

  5. In the Automatic Deletion of Session Videos section, select Maximum Session Data Storage Duration, enter a value, and click Save.

Manually delete session videos

Delete session videos stored before a specific point in time. This operation is permanent.

  5. In the Manual Deletion of Session Videos section, select a date and time, click OK, and then click Delete.

Bastionhost deletes the audit session data that is stored before the specified time.

Configure session automatic cleanup

Enable automatic cleanup to remove TEXT-format session records after a configured retention period.

Important

After a session record is deleted from the session list, the corresponding audit video is no longer accessible in Bastionhost.
