As your service mesh workloads grow, Standard Edition or Professional Edition may no longer meet your requirements. Service Mesh (ASM) allows you to upgrade your instance to a commercial edition -- Enterprise Edition or Ultimate Edition -- which provide enhanced capabilities, support larger clusters, and include comprehensive technical support.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, verify the following based on your current edition:
Standard Edition (V1.9.7.114 or later): You can manually change the edition to a commercial edition by following this procedure.
Standard Edition (earlier than V1.9.7.114): You must update the ASM instance to V1.9.7.114 or later before you can change the edition.
Professional Edition: The edition automatically changes to a commercial edition in the ASM console. You can skip the edition change steps below but may still need to activate pay-as-you-go billing and restart application pods.
Impacts
Review the following impacts before you proceed:
| Impact | Condition | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Gateway restart | Instance created before July 12, 2023, running a non-commercial edition (Standard or Professional) | Schedule the edition change during off-peak hours |
| Billing activation | First commercial edition instance on your account | Activate pay-as-you-go billing during the process |
For pricing details, see Billing rules.
Change the edition
Log on to the ASM console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Service Mesh > Mesh Management.
On the Mesh Management page, find your ASM instance and click Specification change in the Actions column.
On the Specification change page, set the Spec parameter to the target edition, select the check box next to Service Agreement, and then click Update Service Mesh.
If prompted, activate pay-as-you-go billing. If an Error message appears prompting you to activate pay-as-you-go billing, click go to activate. On the activation page, read and agree to ASM (Pay-as-you-go) Terms of Service, and then click Activate Now. After activation, the edition change begins automatically.
Verify the edition change
On the Mesh Management page, check the Status column for your ASM instance:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Updating | The edition change is in progress |
| Running | The edition change is complete |
(Optional) Restart application pods
After the edition change, restart the application pods in the clusters on the data plane to enable commercial edition features.
