When an ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ instance expires or your Alibaba Cloud account balance is insufficient, the instance enters a 7-day grace period before permanent deletion. Renew your instance or add funds before the grace period ends to avoid data loss.
Subscription instances
A subscription instance runs normally until its expiration date, regardless of your account balance. However, if your balance is below the required amount, you cannot purchase new instances, upgrade existing instances, or renew subscriptions.
After a subscription instance expires, it goes through the following lifecycle:
| Phase | Duration | Service status | Data status | Action required |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Active | Before expiration | Fully operational | All data retained | None |
| Grace period | 7 days after expiration | Unavailable. The ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console and API operations are both disabled. | Metadata retained, including instance, topic, and consumer group configurations. | Renew the instance to restore service. |
| Released | After the 7-day grace period | Instance permanently deleted | All metadata deleted and cannot be recovered. | Re-create the instance. |

Pay-as-you-go and serverless instances
Pay-as-you-go and serverless instances are billed hourly. At the start of each hour, ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ settles fees for the previous hour and deducts them from your account balance. Bills are generated automatically, though delivery times may vary.
If your account balance is insufficient to cover the bill, the instance is stopped and goes through the following lifecycle:
| Phase | Duration | Service status | Data status | Action required |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stopped | 7 days after the instance is stopped | Unavailable. The ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console and API operations are both disabled. | Metadata retained, including instance, topic, and consumer group configurations. | Add funds to your Alibaba Cloud account to restore service. |
| Released | After the 7-day period | Instance permanently deleted | All topics and consumer groups deleted and cannot be recovered. | Re-create the instance. |
When your account has an overdue payment, the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ service is affected as follows:
ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ service suspension
The console and OpenAPI become unavailable.
Metadata, such as instances, topics, and consumer groups, is retained.
During this period, if you pay the overdue amount, your ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ instance resumes normal operation.
7 days after service suspension
If you do not pay the overdue amount for the instance within 7 days after the service is suspended, the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ instance is released. After an instance is released, all its data, such as topics and consumer groups, are deleted and cannot be recovered.
