Fees for dedicated instances include instance usage fees and outbound public network traffic fees. You are not charged based on the number of API calls.

Billing for pay-as-you-go instances starts after an instance is created and running. You can release pay-as-you-go dedicated instances at any time to stop billing.

The minimum billing cycle for the pay-as-you-go method is one hour. Usage for less than one hour is billed as one hour.

Billing time: Bills are typically generated within one hour after the current billing cycle ends, and no later than three hours after.

If your backend service and API Gateway are in different regions, or if your backend service is not hosted on Alibaba Cloud, you are charged for the traffic from API Gateway to your backend service. The pricing is the same as the pricing in the preceding table.
Billing examples

Pay-as-you-go: You create a pay-as-you-go api.s1.small dedicated instance in the Singapore region and release the instance after 9.5 hours. During this period, 10 GB of outbound public network traffic is consumed. The total fee is USD 10.47. The instance usage fee is 10 hours × USD 0.93/hour = USD 9.3, and the traffic fee is 10 GB × USD 0.117/GB = USD 1.17.

Subscription: You create a subscription api.s1.small dedicated instance in the Singapore region for one month. During this period, 10 GB of outbound public network traffic is consumed. The total fee is USD 561.17. The instance usage fee is USD 560, and the traffic fee is 10 GB × USD 0.117/GB = USD 1.17.

Overdue payment alerts

The system checks whether your account balance is sufficient to cover the fees for the next seven days. This check is based on the average amount of your API Gateway bills over the preceding week. If your balance is insufficient, you receive a text message or email alert.

If you enable balance alerts, you receive a text message or email alert when your account balance falls below the threshold you set.

Overdue payments
If the available balance in your account is less than the billed amount for the previous billing cycle, your API Gateway service has an overdue payment. You will receive a text message or email that reminds you to top up your account.

Service suspension
If your payment is overdue, your APIs can no longer be called. However, API management operations are not affected. You will receive a text message or email that reminds you to top up your account.

Service resumption
If you top up your account within six months after the service is suspended, the service is automatically re-enabled and you can continue to use it. If the payment is overdue for more than six months, Alibaba Cloud reserves the right to release your API configurations.
