API Gateway:Change an instance specification

Last Updated:Jun 02, 2026

When your traffic demands increase or decrease, you can upgrade or downgrade the specification of a dedicated instance without interrupting API calls. The change takes 5 to 10 minutes and the new specification takes effect immediately.

Usage notes

  1. The instance must be in the running state before you can change its specification.

  2. For subscription instances: upgrading requires you to pay the price difference; downgrading refunds the price difference to your original payment method. Redeemed vouchers are not returned.

  3. The new specification takes effect immediately after the change is complete.

  4. The specification change takes 5 to 10 minutes. APIs running on the instance remain callable throughout the change.

Change an instance specification

  1. Log on to the API Gateway console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Instances and Clusters > Dedicated Instances. Find the target instance and click Upgrade or Downgrade.

  1. On the page that appears, select the target specification from the Specifications drop-down list.

  2. Select the I have read and agree API Gateway Terms of Service check box and click Buy Now.

The Waiting for Traffic Switchover state

If the outbound public IP address or outbound internal IP address of the instance changes during the specification change, the change is suspended and the instance enters the Waiting for Traffic Switchover state.

    • If you do not have a whitelist configured for outbound IP addresses, click Switch Traffic to complete the specification change.

    • If you have a whitelist configured for outbound IP addresses, add the new IP address to the whitelist first, then click Switch Traffic to complete the specification change.

If you do not complete the traffic switchover within 24 hours, the specification change is cancelled and the instance reverts to its original specification.

On the Instances page, you can view the outbound IP addresses of the instance, including the new IP address.
