API Gateway:Enable tracing analysis for a Cloud-native API Gateway instance

Cloud-native API Gateway integrates with Managed Service for OpenTelemetry and SkyWalking to provide distributed tracing. After you enable tracing analysis, you can trace requests and diagnose performance bottlenecks across your microservices architecture.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that you have:

Tracing analysis fees are charged by Managed Service for OpenTelemetry based on resource usage, not by Cloud-native API Gateway. For details, see Managed Service for OpenTelemetry pricing.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the API Gateway console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cloud-native API Gateway > Instance. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Instance page, click the ID or name of the target gateway instance.

  4. In the left-side navigation pane, click Parameters.

  5. In the Observability Parameters section, click the 1 icon next to Tracing.

  6. In the Configure Tracing Analysis dialog box, configure the following parameters and click OK.

    Description

    Tracing Analysis Protocol

    Select a trace propagation protocol. Options: OpenTelemetry (W3C) (recommended), Zipkin (B3), and SkyWalking.

    Sampling Rate

    Set the percentage of requests to sample. Default: 100 (all requests). You can decrease the sampling rate based on your business requirements.

Verify the result

After you enable tracing analysis, go to Observation and Analysis > Tracing in the left-side navigation pane to view trace data for the gateway instance.
