This topic describes how to use Power BI to connect to an AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster for real-time data analysis.

Prerequisites

Before you use Power BI, make sure that the following requirements are met:

  • Power BI is installed. For more information, see Download Power BI tools and apps.
    Note In this topic, Power BI Desktop 2.79.5768.663 in English is used.
  • MySQL Connector 6.9.3 is installed. For more information, see MySQL Connector/NET.
    Note The latest 8.x versions of MySQL Connector are incompatible with AnalyticDB for MySQL.
  • A public endpoint is obtained for the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster if you want to connect to an AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster over the Internet. For more information, see Apply for or release a public endpoint.

Use Power BI to connect to an AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster

  1. Start Power BI.
  2. Choose Get data > More > Database > MySQL database and click Connect.
    Note Power BI checks whether MySQL Connector is installed. If MySQL Connector is not installed, follow the instructions to install MySQL Connector 6.9.3.

  3. Enter the endpoint of the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster in the Server field, enter the name of the database in the Database field, and then click OK.

  4. Enter the database account of the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster in the User name field, enter the password in the Password field, and then click Connect.

  5. In the Encryption Support message, click OK. Power BI starts to connect to the AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster.

    After you are connected to the cluster, tables in the database are displayed on the right side. You can click the name of a table to view table data.
