This topic describes the parameters on the buy page of an Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch cluster.

Billing methods

Elasticsearch provides two billing methods: Subscription and Pay-As-You-Go. You can select a billing method as required.
  • Subscription: Currently, Elasticsearch offers a promotional discount based on the subscription duration. Elasticsearch subscription clusters do not support unconditional refunds within five days or conditional refunds. If you want to cancel your subscription, we recommend that you back up all data stored on your subscription cluster and choose Billing > Renew in the top navigation bar of the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console. Then, disable the Auto Renew feature. Before the end of the current billing cycle, you can still use your cluster. However, the subscription fee will not be refunded. Alibaba Cloud will stop renewing your cluster in the next billing cycle.
    • Elasticsearch subscription clusters support the Auto Renew feature. By default, this feature is disabled. For more information about the feature, see the description of the Auto Renew parameter. If the feature is disabled, you must log on to the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console and manually renew clusters. For more information, see Overdue payments.
    • Elasticsearch subscription clusters cannot be manually released in the console.
  • Pay-As-You-Go: We recommend that you purchase Elasticsearch pay-as-you-go clusters for testing purposes at the development and testing stages. You can log on to the Alibaba Cloud Elasticsearch console, click More in the Actions column that corresponds to an Elasticsearch cluster, and select Release to manually release the cluster.

Parameters

Parameter Description
Region For more information, see Regions and zones.
Zone For more information, see Regions and zones.
Elasticsearch Version The version of an Elasticsearch cluster. Valid values: 6.7, 6.3, and 5.5.3.

Network Type Currently, only VPC is supported.
Number of Zones
  • 1-AZ: This deployment method is the default method. It is used to handle non-critical workloads.
  • 2-AZ: This deployment method implements cross-zone disaster recovery. It is used to handle production workloads.
  • 3-AZ: This deployment method implements high availability. It is used to handle production workloads that have high requirements on service availability.
Note
  • Currently, you can deploy an Elasticsearch cluster across three zones only in the China (Hangzhou), China (Beijing), China (Shanghai), or China (Shenzhen) region.
  • When you deploy an Elasticsearch cluster across zones, you do not need to specify each zone. The system automatically selects the zones.
  • For more information about the precautions for deploying and using cross-zone clusters, see Precautions.
VPC Select a VPC in the current region.
Note If you want to use an ECS instance to access your Elasticsearch cluster in a VPC, you must ensure that the ECS instance and Elasticsearch cluster are connected to the same VPC.
VSwitch After you specify a VPC, all available VSwitches in the selected zone are displayed.
Data Node Type The type of data nodes in an Elasticsearch cluster. Valid values: 1C 2GB, 2C 4GB, 2C 8GB, 4C 16GB, 8C 32GB, 16C 32GB, and 16C 64GB. The 1C 2GB type is used only for testing purposes.
Data Nodes The number of data nodes that you want to purchase. Valid values: 2 to 50. Default value: 3.
Notice You must purchase a minimum of two data nodes. A cluster that contains only two data nodes may be at risk of split-brain issues. Therefore, exercise caution when you use such clusters.
Dedicated Master Node To improve the stability of your services, we recommend that you purchase dedicated master nodes. For more information, see Dedicated master nodes.
Client Node You can purchase client nodes to share the CPU overheads of data nodes. This further improves the computing performance and service stability of your cluster. For CPU-intensive services, we recommend that you purchase client nodes. For example, if a number of aggregation operations are performed, you can use client nodes to share overheads. For more information, see Elasticsearch official node types and Client nodes.
Warm Node If your business includes both of the following index types, we recommend that you purchase warm nodes to implement the hot-warm architecture. This architecture can improve the computing performance and service stability of Elasticsearch. For more information, see "Hot-Warm" Architecture in Elasticsearch 5.x.
  • Frequently queried or written indexes
  • Infrequently queried or written indexes, typically indexes of records

Kibana Node This parameter is fixed to Yes.
Kibana Node Type Alibaba Cloud offers you a 1-core 2 GB Kibana node that is free of charge. You can purchase Kibana nodes with higher specifications.
Disk Type The disk type of an Elasticsearch cluster. Valid values:
  • Cloud SSD (default): A standard SSD provides up to 2,048 GiB of storage space. Standard SSDs are suitable for online data analysis and search that require high IOPS and fast response.
  • Efficient cloud disk: An ultra disk provides up to 5,120 GiB of storage space. Ultra disks are cost-effective and are used in scenarios such as logging and analyzing large amounts of data.
    Notice Ultra disks with the storage space larger than 2,560 GiB cannot be resized because these disks are designed to run in disk arrays or RAID 0.
Disk Encryption Disk encryption offers the maximum data security without the need to make additional changes to your business and applications. However, disk encryption may have a few impacts on the performance of your Elasticsearch services. Disk encryption is free of charge. Reading data from or writing data to encrypted disks does not incur any additional fees.
Notice
  • Only cloud disks can be encrypted.
  • You cannot enable disk encryption for purchased disks.
  • You cannot disable disk encryption for encrypted disks.
  • During a cluster configuration upgrade, you cannot change the disk encryption attribute for the disks that you have purchased. However, you can enable disk encryption when you purchase warm nodes and disks.
Node Storage The storage space of each data node. Unit: GiB. This storage space depends on the disk type.
  • Cloud SSD: A standard SSD provides up to 2,048 GiB of storage space.
  • Efficient cloud disk:
    • An ultra disk provides up to 5,120 GiB of storage space. If the volume of the data you want to store exceeds 2,048 GiB, you can set the storage space to 2560, 3072, 3584, 4096, 4608, or 5120.
    • If the storage space of the disk for a purchased Elasticsearch cluster is less than 2,048 GiB, you can only resize the disk to a maximum of 2,048 GiB. If the storage space of the disk is greater than 2,048 GiB, you cannot resize the disk.
Username The username of the account that is used to access an Elasticsearch cluster and log on to the Kibana console. Default value: elastic.
Notice If you use the elastic account to access your Elasticsearch cluster and then reset the password of the account, it may require some time for the new password to take effect. During this period of time, you cannot use the elastic account to access your Elasticsearch cluster. Therefore, we recommend that you do not use the elastic account to access your Elasticsearch cluster. You can log on to the Kibana console and create an account with the required role to access your Elasticsearch cluster.
Password The password of the elastic account. You must specify this parameter.
Duration Only subscription clusters support this parameter. Default value: 1 month. Valid values: 1 to 9 months and 1 to 3 years. You can select a subscription duration based on your business needs.
Auto Renew

Only subscription clusters support the Auto Renew feature. By default, this feature is disabled.

  • You can select Auto Renew on the buy page to enable this feature.
  • For purchased Elasticsearch subscription clusters, you can enable this feature for the clusters in the Billing Management console.
    Notice
    • Monthly subscription: The auto-renewal cycle is one month.
    • Annual subscription: The auto-renewal cycle is one year.

Dedicated master nodes

Parameter Description
Dedicated Master Node By default, this parameter is set to No for a cluster deployed in only one zone and is set to Yes for a cluster deployed across zones. The setting can be changed.
Notice
  • To improve the stability of your services, we recommend that you purchase dedicated master nodes.
  • You cannot release the dedicated master nodes that you have purchased.
  • You cannot downgrade the dedicated master nodes that you have purchased.
  • If you have purchased 10 or more data nodes, this parameter is automatically set to No. You must manually purchase dedicated master nodes.
Dedicated Master Nodes This parameter is fixed to 3.
Dedicated Master Node Type The default value is 2C 8GB. You can change the specifications based on your business needs.
Dedicated Master Node Disk Type This parameter is fixed to Cloud SSD.
Dedicated Master Node Storage Space This parameter is fixed to 20G.

On the buy page or cluster configuration upgrade page, you can click Yes next to Dedicated Master Node to purchase dedicated master nodes. You can also upgrade purchased dedicated master nodes on the cluster configuration upgrade page. Your cluster is then charged based on the new specifications. Note
  • The minimum specifications of a dedicated master node that you can purchase on the buy page or configuration upgrade page is 2-core 8 GB.
  • If your dedicated master nodes are free of charge, these nodes will start to incur fees after you upgrade them.
  • If dedicated master nodes are purchased and the Dedicated Master Node parameter on the configuration upgrade page is set to Yes, the specifications of the dedicated master nodes are 1-core 2 GB.

Client nodes

Notice
  • The default number of client nodes is 2. Valid values: 2 to 25. You can specify the number as required.
  • By default, the specifications of client nodes are 2-core 8 GB. You can specify the specifications as required.
  • The default storage type of client nodes is ultra disk and cannot be changed.
  • The default storage space specified for each client node is 20 GB and cannot be changed.
  • You cannot release the client nodes that you have purchased.
  • You cannot downgrade the client nodes that you have purchased.

On the buy page or cluster configuration upgrade page, click Yes next to Client Node to purchase client nodes. You can also upgrade purchased client nodes on the cluster configuration upgrade page. Your cluster is then charged based on the new specifications. For more information about the prices of the specifications, see Pricing.

Warm nodes

Notice
  • The default number of warm nodes is 2. Valid values: 2 to 50. You can specify the number as required.
  • By default, the specifications of warm nodes are 2-core 8 GB. You can specify the specifications as required.
  • The default storage type of warm nodes is ultra disk and cannot be changed.
  • The default storage space specified for each warm node is 500 GB. You can specify the storage space as required.
  • You cannot release the warm nodes that you have purchased.
  • You cannot downgrade the warm nodes that you have purchased.

On the buy page or cluster configuration upgrade page, click Yes next to Warm Node to purchase warm nodes. You can also upgrade purchased warm nodes on the cluster configuration upgrade page. Your cluster is then charged based on the new specifications.

After you purchase warm nodes, the system adds -Enode.attr.box_type to the startup parameters of the nodes as follows.

Note
  • An ultra disk provides up to 5,120 GiB of storage space. Ultra disks are cost-effective and are used in scenarios such as logging and analyzing large amounts of data.

    Ultra disks with the storage space larger than 2,560 GiB cannot be resized because these disks are designed to run in disk arrays or RAID 0.

  • You can resize an existing ultra disk to a maximum of 2,048 GiB. When you purchase an ultra disk for an Elasticsearch cluster, you can set the storage space of the disk to a maximum of 5120. If the volume of the data you want to store exceeds 2,048 GiB, you can set the storage space to 2560, 3072, 3584, 4096, 4608, and 5120.
