Key concepts
Instance
An RDS instance is a database process that consumes independent physical memory resources. You specify the memory size, storage capacity, and database type when you create an instance. Instance performance scales with memory size. After creation, you can change the instance specifications or delete the instance.
Database
A database is a logical unit created on an RDS instance. One instance can host multiple databases. Each database must have a unique name within the instance it belongs to.
Region and zone
A region is a physical data center. Each region contains multiple isolated locations called zones. Each zone has independent power and network infrastructure. For available regions, see Global infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud.
