ApsaraDB for MongoDB:Update the minor version of an instance

Last Updated:Jan 22, 2026

This topic describes how to update the minor version of an ApsaraDB for MongoDB instance to the latest version in the console.

Prerequisites

  • The instance is a replica set or sharded cluster instance.

  • The instance is not running the latest minor version. If your instance runs the latest minor version, the Update Minor Version button is not displayed.

Usage notes

Important considerations before updating:

  • Irreversible operation: You cannot downgrade the minor version after you update it.

  • Service interruption: Upgrading the database minor version will restart the instance, causing a transient connection interruption of up to 30 seconds. We recommend that you perform the update during off-peak hours or ensure that your application has automatic reconnection capabilities.

  • Automatic updates during certain operations: If your instance is not running the latest minor version, the system may automatically update it to the latest version during the following operations to ensure optimal performance and stability:

    Operation

    Description

Upgrade the major version of an instance

The minor version of instances that use cloud disks or local disks is automatically updated to the latest version.

    Restart an instance

The minor version of instances that use cloud disks or local disks is automatically updated to the latest version.

    Important

During a node restart, the system does not update the minor version.

    Migrate data

If you migrate data to a new instance, the new instance runs the latest minor version by default.

Change the configurations of an instance

The minor version of instances that use local disks is automatically updated to the latest version.

    Important

The system does not update the minor version when you change only the storage capacity.

Restore backup data to a new instance by point in time

By default, the new instance to which data is restored runs the latest minor version.

Restore databases to a new instance

By default, the new instance to which data is restored runs the latest minor version.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Replica Set Instances or Sharded Cluster Instances page. In the top navigation bar, select the region where the instance resides and the resource group to which the instance belongs. Then, find the instance and click its ID.

  2. In the Specification Information section on the right side of the page, click Update Minor Version.

    Note
    • If the Update Minor Version button is not displayed, your instance already runs the latest minor version.

    • The instance is upgraded to the latest available minor version. You cannot select a specific target version.

  3. In the Update Minor Version dialog box, review the version release notes and decide whether to proceed with the update.

    • To update the minor version, click OK.

    • To cancel the update, click Cancel.

  4. Monitor the update progress. The instance status changes to Upgrading during the update. When the status returns to Running, the minor version update is complete.
