Alibaba Cloud Short Message Service (SMS) supports two billing models: pay-as-you-go and prepaid resource package. The rates for sending messages vary by destination country or region. Choose the most cost-effective billing model based on your expected sending volume and destination.
Billing rules
SMS charges fees based on submission. Fees are incurred when a message is successfully submitted, regardless of the carrier delivery receipt status (success or failure). This mechanism aligns with the standard billing practices of global carriers.
SMS uses real-time metering with next-month settlement:
The system records and aggregates your daily usage in real time.
Your bill is generated on the first day of the following month, covering all usage from the previous month.
You can request an invoice in the console after settlement.

English-only messages

Standard characters (letters, digits, and common symbols): each counts as one character.
Extended characters (
| ^ € { } [ ] ~ \): each counts as two characters.For more information about GSM-7 characters, see GSM-7 characters.
NoteIf a message contains any character not listed as an extended GSM-7 character, the entire message is billed using the rules for UCS-2 encoding.
The maximum length of a single message is 160 characters. If your content exceeds the limit, it is split into multiple segments, each with up to 153 characters. Each segment is billed as a separate message.
Example: A 350-character message will be split into three segments (153 + 153 + 44) and billed as 3 messages.
Messages in other languages

Every character (such as Chinese characters, letters, symbols, and spaces) counts as 1 character.
The maximum length of a single message is 70 characters. If your content exceeds the limit, it is split into multiple segments, each with up to 67 characters. Each segment is billed as a separate message.
Example: A 150-character message will be split into three segments (67 + 67 + 16) and billed as 3 messages.
Overdue payments
When the available balance in your account (including coupons) is insufficient to cover the overdue charges, SMS sending is suspended until the outstanding bills are settled. To maintain business continuity, ensure that your account has a sufficient balance.
Bills
Log on to the SMS console. In the left navigation pane, choose . View your Bills and Bill Details by month.
Resource packages
By default, SMS uses the billing model of prepaid resource package. To send messages, purchase an appropriate resource package.
Resource packages are non-refundable after purchase.
You cannot use resource packages if your account has an overdue payment. Any remaining quota in a partially used package cannot be refunded.
Each resource package is valid for 180 days. Any unused quota expires after this period.
Under the resource package model, the QPS limit for a single Alibaba Cloud account is 30 queries per second.
Alibaba Cloud reserves the right to adjust the standard resource package prices if the costs from carriers change. All price adjustments will be announced in advance through official notices.
Once the resource packages are exhausted, if the pay-as-you-go model is enabled, the service continues until the account is suspended due to an overdue balance. If the pay-as-you-go model is disabled, the service stops as soon as the packages are exhausted.
You can purchase resource packages for different destination countries or regions:
Global Plus package: Supports sending messages to over 200 countries and regions worldwide.
Global package: Does not support sending messages to the following countries and regions:
Madagascar, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Haiti, Iran, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Serbia, Tanzania, Kuwait, Senegal, Cambodia, Zambia, Gabon, Libya, Malawi, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Maldives, Liberia, Zaire, Iraq, Pakistan, Niger, Comoros, Mayotte, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Mali, Ecuador, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt, Nepal, Bhutan, Jamaica, Tunisia, Laos, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ethiopia, Syria, Philippines, Somalia, Lebanon, Mongolia, Ascension, Afghanistan, East Timor, Malaysia, Russia, Peru, Uganda, Chad, Algeria, Ghana, El Salvador, Qatar, Bolivia, Turkmenistan, Rwanda, Israel

Pay-as-you-go
SMS allows you to send messages to more than 200 countries and regions. This pay-as-you-go model uses destination-based pricing, where the price per message depends on the destination.
The default billing model is resource package. To switch to the pay-as-you-go model, contact sales to enable it for your account.
Under the pay-as-you-go model, the QPS limit for a single Alibaba Cloud account is 2,000 queries per second.
The table below lists reference prices. Alibaba Cloud may adjust these prices due to market fluctuations, and all price changes will be announced in advance through official notices.
