Cloud Parallel File Storage:What is CPFS?

Last Updated:Mar 28, 2024

Cloud Parallel File Storage (CPFS) is a fully managed, scalable, and parallel file system service provided by Alibaba Cloud to meet the requirements of various high-performance computing scenarios. CPFS provides a unified namespace that allows concurrent access from thousands of servers. CPFS provides tens of GB/s of throughput and millions of IOPS at an extremely low latency of sub-milliseconds.

CPFS for Lingjun is in invitational preview and can be used only with PAI-Lingjun Intelligent Computing Service (Lingjun). If you want to use CPFS for Lingjun, submit a ticket to apply for the qualification. After your application is approved, you can create a CPFS for Lingjun file system in the Apsara File Storage NAS (NAS) console and mount the file system to a Lingjun cluster by using the standard Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) protocol. CPFS for Lingjun is a file storage service with ultra-high performance. CPFS for Lingjun supports end-to-end Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) networks and can be used in intelligent computing scenarios such as AI Generated Content (AIGC) and autonomous driving. For more information about the performance of CPFS for Lingjun, see Storage types.

Benefits

  • High throughput: The I/O bandwidth linearly increases with capacity and can be up to 2 TB/s.

  • High IOPS: The IOPS linearly increase with capacity and can be up to 30,000,000.

  • Low latency: CPFS provides stable I/O at sub-millisecond latency.

  • Massive file storage: A fully symmetric server architecture is deployed for metadata management. You can store up to 10 billion files in a file system. More than 100,000 of metadata entries can be processed per second.

How to use

You can create, use, or release CPFS file systems by using one of the following methods:

  • Use the NAS console

You can log on to the NAS console to manage your CPFS resources on web pages.

  • Use the CPFS API or CPFS SDKs

CPFS provides RESTful API operations and SDKs for multiple programming languages to facilitate custom development.

Deactivate CPFS

  • CPFS cannot be deactivated. If CPFS is activated but no CPFS file system is created, you are not charged for CPFS.

  • For more information about how to stop billing if you no longer need to use CPFS after you create a CPFS file system, see the How do I stop being charged for CPFS? section of the "FAQ about billing" topic. After a CPFS file system is deleted, the data in the CPFS file system cannot be restored.

  • For more information about the billable items and how to query bills, see View your bills and Query the usage details of CPFS.
