How billing works for Chat App Message Service - Chat App Message Service

The Chat App message service offers two billing models: subscription packages and pay-as-you-go. This document details the billing rules, pricing, and billing examples for each model to help you understand your service fees and plan your budget.

Billing models

The Chat App Message Service offers two billing models:

Pay-as-you-go: You are billed based on your actual usage (contact your account manager to enable this billing model).
Resource plan: Purchase a resource plan in advance. When you use the service, points from the plan are deducted first.

Important

If you have a resource plan, its points are deducted first to cover service usage. After your resource plan is depleted, you will need to purchase a new one. To use the pay-as-you-go billing model, contact your account manager.
You cannot use resource plans if your account has an overdue payment. Remaining points are non-refundable, and the validity period cannot be extended.
Resource plans are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. You must use the points within the validity period. Any unused points expire and are forfeited.

2. Resource packages

To send messages with the Chat App Message Service, you must first purchase a package.

The Chat App Message Service has two pricing components: Chat App Message Service fees and WhatsApp messaging fees.

Note

Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs are exempt from message fees and Chat App service fees.
SMS and email are exempt from Chat App service fees. For message fees, see the billing details in the respective product consoles (Short Message Service or Direct Mail).
Any changes to billing will be announced in advance.

Chat App service fee

Chat App service fees do not vary by country or region. Each message or service session consumes 50 points.

WhatsApp messaging fee

The point cost for a message varies by destination region and message type (1 point = 0.0001 USD).

Resource plan billing

With a resource plan, sending a marketing message to a user in Malaysia costs 910 points: 860 points for the message and a 50-point Chat App service fee.

The rates for Authentication and Authentication-International messages in Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates take effect on February 1, 2025.

3. Pay-as-you-go

The fee structure comprises the service fee for the Chat App messaging service platform and the messaging fee.

Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs: No message fees or Chat App service fees apply.
Email messages: No Chat App service fees apply. For message fees, check the product console for billing details.
We will announce any billing changes in advance.
Billing example: With pay-as-you-go billing, the total charge for sending a marketing message to a user in Malaysia is 0.091 USD. This includes a list price of 0.086 USD per message and a Chat App service fee of 0.005 USD per message (0.086 + 0.005 = 0.091).

Billing

The Chat App service fee is a flat $0.005 per message or session, worldwide.

Viber message fees

Note

Viber messages only support the pay-as-you-go billing model.
The monthly fee for a Viber Service ID is waived for the month of activation. Standard billing begins the following month.
The international message rate applies to messages sent to a destination outside the business's country or region of registration. This rate is the same for all message types.

Message fees vary based on the destination and message type.

A flat monthly fee of $197 applies regardless of the destination. You are charged the greater of this fee or your actual monthly usage charges.

Important

If your business operates in a special industry, such as micro-lending, loans, gambling, or betting, contact your account manager to confirm your pricing.
You must ensure that your message content is lawful. Sending prohibited content may result in account suspension by Viber or other penalties. Prohibited content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Content that infringes on or violates any rights, including third-party intellectual property rights.
- Content that could be considered abusive, discriminatory, or harassing.
- Content that is illegal under any applicable laws or regulations.
- Content that contains or transmits viruses, worms, Trojan horses, or other forms of malicious code.

Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine support template messages on Viber. You must create these templates and submit them to Viber for review. If you send non-template messages, such as plain text, or any unapproved template message to these three destinations, you will be charged at the promotion message rate.
