Alibaba Cloud Collaborates with NBA China to Empower Next-Gen Fan Experiences with AI and Cloud

At the Alibaba Cloud International Fireside Chat in Macao on October 10, 2025, Alibaba Cloud shared details of its strategic collaboration with NBA China, highlighting how AI and cloud technologies will enhance basketball fan experiences across Greater China.

As the official cloud computing and AI partner of NBA China, Alibaba Cloud is supporting a range of digital fan engagement initiatives. During the NBA China Games 2025 in Macao, Alibaba Cloud debuted its Multi-Camera Replay Solution. Powered by Alibaba’s AI algorithms, the system tracked player movements and isolated them from the background, generating high-quality frames that were combined into a single image to form a smooth motion trail highlighting the player’s trajectory.

Krishna Bhagavathula, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of National Basketball Association (NBA), said, "Through our strategic partnership with Alibaba Cloud, NBA China is harnessing AI to scale and deliver deeply personalized, real-time basketball experiences—tailored for fans in China."

Dr. Feifei Li, President of International Business and SVP of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, said, "Alibaba Cloud is supporting NBA China by providing cloud infrastructure services, a proprietary large language model based on Qwen, and AI-powered features such as voice-replicated commentary and multi-camera replay, integrated into the NBA App, official website, and mini-programs."

At NBA House, fans were able to create personalized NBA-themed avatars and generate game commentary clips in a voice replicated from a sample of their own, using a system powered by Alibaba’s Qwen model.

The NBA has been present in China for over 40 years and currently has more than 425 million followers across its league, team, and player social media platforms in the country. This collaboration with Alibaba Cloud will further advance the NBA’s innovation in digital fan experiences across China.
