WUYING Workspace:Update an image

Last Updated:Oct 24, 2023

Features of a cloud computer in WUYING Workspace vary based on the image that the cloud computer uses. To ensure that your end users can use cloud computers as expected, we recommend that you update images of cloud computers at the earliest opportunity when a new version becomes available. This topic describes how to update an image of a cloud computer.

Configure automatic push for image update tasks

The automatic push feature takes effect on cloud computers that use custom images. The following section describes how to configure the automatic push feature for a cloud computer.

Note

Only custom images support the feature. If cloud computers use system images or shared images, you must manually update the images of the cloud computers.

  1. Log on to the WUYING Workspace console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Operations > Image Updates.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the Image Update page, enable or disable the Automatic Push feature.

    • The 开启 icon indicates that the automatic push feature is enabled.

If you enable the feature, the system automatically pushes image update tasks to end users who use cloud computers when updates are available. End users receive notifications about image updates when they log on to WUYING software clients. They can determine whether to update images based on their business requirements. To ensure user experience, we recommend that you enable the feature.

    • The 开关 icon indicates that the feature is disabled.

If you disable the feature, you can only manually push image update tasks when image updates are available. After you push image update tasks in the WUYING Workspace console, end users receive image update notifications when they log on to WUYING software clients.

      Note

If the feature is disabled, images of cloud computes may not be updated in time. Cloud computers may not provide services as expected if their images are outdated for a long time.

Update an image

The system automatically pushes images of new versions to you. You can update images based on your business requirements. The system also pushes image update tasks for existing cloud computers. When you receive the image update tasks in the WUYING Workspace console, you can immediately update cloud computer images or create scheduled update tasks for the system to automatically update images when the specified points in time arrive. You can also push image update tasks to your end users. In this case, end users can determine whether to update their cloud computer images based on their business requirements after they log on to WUYING terminals.

Usage notes

Update an image

  • In most cases, an image update task takes about 15 minutes to complete.

  • To prevent unnecessary issues, we recommend that you do not share, copy, or change the image or use the image to create cloud computers or cloud computer pools before an image update task is complete. If you perform these operations during the update process, the outdated image is used.

Upgrade a cloud computer image

  • In most cases, the update of a cloud computer image takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. During the update process, end users cannot use the cloud computer.

  • The system updates only the images of cloud computers that are in the Running state and not connected to any end users.

  • Image update can be classified into immediate update and scheduled update. Before you create a scheduled update task, take note of the following items:

    • If you create a scheduled update task for a cloud computer and an end user is still connected to the cloud computer during the effective period of the task, the system does not update the cloud computer image. To ensure the successful execution of the scheduled update task, you must make sure that no end user is connected to the cloud computer during the effective period of the task. For more information about how to create a scheduled update task, see Configure a scheduled task.

    • If you repeatedly modify a scheduled update task, the most recent modifications about the update method and update time take effect.

    • After you create a scheduled update task for a cloud computer, the end users of the cloud computer will receive update notifications about the update time and precautions.

  • If the update of a cloud computer image fails, the cloud computer may not provide services as expected. To prevent this issue, we recommend that you create snapshots of the cloud computer before the update starts. If the image update fails or if you want to roll back the new image to the previous one, you can restore data based on the snapshots. For more information, see Create a snapshot. If you create multiple scheduled update tasks that have the same effective period for cloud computers, the system automatically creates snapshots for the cloud computers before the tasks are executed.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the WUYING Workspace console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Operations > Image Updates.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. In the update task list, find the version that you want to use and perform the operations described in the following table based on business scenarios:

  5. Scenario

    Operation

View release notes of the desired version

Click View Release Notes in the Actions column.

The release notes of the desired version include the version number, update package size, and update details.

View custom images available for updates

Click Query Involved Custom Image and Update Progress in the Actions column.

You can query the custom images that can be updated to the version, including their names, status, and current versions.

Update images or view the update progress

    1. Click Query Involved Custom Image and Update Progress in the Actions column.

    2. Find the image that you want to update, click Update in the Actions column, and then proceed as prompted.

During the image update, you can view the status of the image. If the status of the image changes from Updating to Available, the update is complete.

View cloud computers available for image updates

Click Query Involved Cloud Computer and Update Progress in the Actions column.

You can view the information about cloud computers whose images can be updated to the version. The information includes the cloud computer names, office network IDs, current image versions, and whether any pending update tasks exist.

    Update cloud computer images

    1. Click Query Involved Cloud Computer and Update Progress in the Actions column.

    2. In the panel that appears, select one of the following update methods to proceed:

      • Update the image of a single cloud computer

        1. In the cloud computer list, find the cloud computer whose image you want to update and click Update in the Actions column.

(Optional) You can also select the cloud computer whose image you want to update and click Immediate/Schedule Update in the lower part of the cloud computer list.

        2. In the dialog box that appears, read the update precautions and select an update method based on your business requirements. Then, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the image update.

During the image update process, the system automatically restarts the cloud computer. When the image update is complete, the cloud computer returns to the state before the image update. This indicates that the image update task is successful.

      • Update multiple images of cloud computers at the same time

        1. In the cloud computer list, select the cloud computers whose images you want to update and click Immediate/Schedule Update in the lower part of the list.

    Note

If you want to update multiple images of cloud computers during the same time period, take note of the following items:

    • By default, the scheduled time period starts at 00:00:00 and ends at 05:00:00 every day. You cannot change the default time period, but you can specify the day on which you want the scheduled update task to be executed.

    • The system permits a limited number of cloud computer images to be updated every day. If the maximum number of cloud computer images is reached on a specific day, you must specify another day for the scheduled update task.

    • If the current time is less than three hours away from 00:00:00 of the following day, you cannot specify the following day for the scheduled update task to be executed.

    • By default, the system creates snapshots for cloud computers three hours before the scheduled update begins. You can also configure the system to create the snapshots six hours before the scheduled update begins.

Manually push an image update task

Click Start Push in the Actions column.

If the automatic push feature is disabled, you can manually choose a desired version and push an image update task to a cloud computer. In this case, you can skip to the latest version.

Stop pushing an image update task

Click Stop Push in the Actions column.

If you do not need to push an image update task to a cloud computer anymore, you can stop pushing the task.
