Elastic Desktop Service:Share or unshare a custom image

Last Updated:Jun 11, 2026

After creating a custom image, you can share it with other Alibaba Cloud accounts. The recipient account can use your shared image to quickly create cloud computers with an identical environment. If you no longer need to share the image, you can unshare it.

Prerequisites

  • Before you share a custom image, remove all sensitive data and files from the image.

  • The Alibaba Cloud account ID of the recipient account. The recipient must be a main account.

To obtain the Alibaba Cloud account ID, move the pointer over your profile picture in the upper-right corner of the console. In the user information card that appears, if the account is labeled as a Main Account, the displayed ID is the Alibaba Cloud account ID.

Limitations

Before you share an image, review the following limitations:

Warning

Elastic Desktop Service does not guarantee the integrity or security of a shared image. When you use a shared image, you must confirm that the image is from a trusted source. You are responsible for any risks that arise from using the shared image.

Sharers

  • Encrypted images cannot be shared.

  • A custom image can be shared with only one Alibaba Cloud account at a time.

  • The total number of shares for all custom images in your account is limited to 50.

  • A custom image can be shared only with an Alibaba Cloud account, not with a RAM user.

  • You can share only the custom images that you create. You cannot reshare an image that was shared with you.

  • You can share images between accounts on the China site and the International site.

  • If you want to delete a shared image, you must first unshare it. For more information, see Unshare an image or Delete a custom image.

  • Cross-account sharing is supported only within the same region. Cross-region sharing is not supported. To share an image across regions, you must first copy the image to the destination region and then share it. For more information, see Copy an image across regions.

Recipient accounts

  • Using a shared image is free and does not count towards the recipient account's image quota. However, the recipient is charged for resources, such as cloud computers, that they create from the shared image.

  • Recipient accounts can use shared images but cannot delete them.

Share an image

Follow these steps to share an image.

The recipient account can also perform the following operations:

Unshare an image

If you no longer need to share a custom image with another Alibaba Cloud account, you can unshare it. Unsharing an image has the following effects on the recipient account:

  • The recipient account can no longer find the image in the Elastic Desktop Service console or by using an API.

  • The recipient account can no longer use the image to create cloud computers.

  • The recipient account cannot select the image when changing the image of a cloud computer that was created from the shared image.

  • Cloud computer templates that the recipient account created from the shared image become unavailable. The recipient account must manually delete these cloud computer templates.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Images Center > Image.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Image page, click the Custom Image tab. Find the custom image that you want to unshare and click View/Share Image in the Actions column.
