:Manage a cloud computer

After you log on to an Alibaba Cloud Workspace client, cloud computers that are assigned to you are displayed as cards. If you move the pointer over the card of a cloud computer, you can view the status of the cloud computer and perform related operations. This topic describes common operations that you can perform on the card of a cloud computer.

Prerequisites

You are logged on to an Alibaba Cloud Workspace client. For more information, see Quick start.

Note

The features of a cloud computer vary based on the type and version of the client that you use. The features provided on your cloud computer card shall prevail.

Connect to or disconnect from a cloud computer

Connect to a cloud computer

If Running is displayed in the upper-left corner of the card of a cloud computer, you can connect to the cloud computer.

Move the pointer over the card and select Connect Cloud Computer.

If In Use is displayed in the upper-left corner of the card, move the pointer over the card and click Show Window to show the desktop of the cloud computer.

After you log on to the client, if only one cloud computer that is in the Running state exists, the cloud computer is automatically connected. After you log on to a Windows client or a macOS client, if you do not want the cloud computer to be automatically connected, perform the following operations: Click the setting icon on the card of the cloud computer, select Settings, choose General > Sign-in, and then clear the check box If you enable Auto Sign-in, the client will sign in automatically for the next three days after you sign in successfully. Then, automatic connection is disabled.

Disconnect from a cloud computer

After you connect to a cloud computer, you can use one of the following methods to disconnect from the cloud computer:

  • If the cloud computer is not displayed in full-screen mode, click the 关闭 icon in the upper-right or upper-left corner of the cloud computer window.

  • Click DesktopAssistant on the desktop of the cloud computer and click Disconnect.

Manage power options

You can start, stop, or restart a cloud computer in the similar way as you do on a regular computer. You can manage power options on the card of a cloud computer.

Start a cloud computer

If the card of a cloud computer is dimmed and Stopped is displayed in the upper-left corner, you can move the pointer over the card and click Start to start the cloud computer. After the cloud computer is started, Running is displayed in the upper-left corner of the card.

Stop a cloud computer

Important

If you stop a cloud computer, running processes are terminated, and files and data on the cloud computer are lost if they are not saved. Make sure that you have saved or backed up the data on the cloud computer before you stop the cloud computer.

After you disconnect from the cloud computer, you can use one of the following methods to stop the cloud computer:

  • On the card of the cloud computer, choose Power > Shut Down and click OK.

    Note

    If you use a web client, you can stop cloud computers only on cloud computer cards.

  • If you want to stop a cloud computer on the desktop of the cloud computer, perform the following operations: For an Adaptive Streaming Protocol (ASP)-based cloud computer that runs Windows, click DesktopAssistant on the desktop of the cloud computer, choose Power > Shut Down, and then click OK.

    For other types of cloud computers, you can stop the cloud computers only on the cloud computer cards of the client page.

Restart a cloud computer

Important

If you restart a cloud computer, running processes are terminated, and files and data on the cloud computer are lost if they are not saved. Make sure that you have saved or backed up the data on the cloud computer before you restart the cloud computer.

After you disconnect from the cloud computer, you can use one of the following methods to restart the cloud computer:

  • On the card of the cloud computer, choose Power > Restart and click OK.

    Note

    If you use a web client, you can restart cloud computers only on the cloud computer cards.

  • If you want to restart a cloud computer on the desktop of the cloud computer, perform the following operations: For an ASP-based cloud computer that runs Windows, click DesktopAssistant on the desktop of the cloud computer, choose Power > Restart and click OK.

    For other types of cloud computers, you can restart the cloud computers only on the cloud computer cards of the client page.

Update a cloud computer

To fix issues and improve user experience in cloud computers, updates are provided. If updates are available for a cloud computer, the Update button appears on the cloud computer card.

Important
  • To prevent data loss, make sure that files on a cloud computer are saved before you update the cloud computer.

  • The update of a cloud computer requires 10 to 15 minutes to complete. During the update, you cannot use the cloud computer.

To update a cloud computer, perform the following operations:

  1. Find the card of the cloud computer and click Update.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Update Now.

    If you want to update the cloud computer later, you can select a time for subsequent update. Click Update Later or close the dialog box and specify a time to update.

  3. In the message that appears, click Confirm Update.

  4. On the page for successful update, click OK to complete the update.

    • If you cannot connect to the cloud computer or want to roll back the cloud computer after the update, click Manage on the card of the cloud computer, choose Snapshots > System Snapshots, select the corresponding system disk or data disk, and then click Confirm Restore to roll back the cloud computer. You can also contact your IT administrator to resolve the issue.

    • If the cloud computer fails to be updated, you can repeat Step 1 to Step 4 or contact your IT administrator.

Specify a name for a cloud computer

You can specify a name for a cloud computer on the card of a cloud computer. This facilitates the management of cloud computers. This section describes how to specify a name for a cloud computer. In this section, a Windows client is used as an example.

  1. In the lower-right corner of the card of a cloud computer, click Manage.

  2. On the Info tab, click Edit next to the Custom Name parameter.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, enter a name and click OK.

    • If you use a mobile client, enter a name in the text box and click Submit.

    Note

    The name must be 2 to 24 characters in length and must start with a letter. The name can contain letters, digits, colons (:), underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-).

What to do next

  • Power option pinning: Click Power on the card of a cloud computer and click the 钉住 icon next to the power option that you want to pin. This way, the option is pinned and displayed next to the Power button. You can pin only one power option in level-1 panel on the card. 3.png

  • You can also click the 取消 icon to cancel the pinning.

  • Display order of cloud computer cards: If you have multiple cloud computers or applications that are displayed as cards, you can click and drag the cards to change the display order. The new order also takes effect if you log on from other Alibaba Cloud Workspace clients.

  • Preference settings: After you connect to a cloud computer, you can configure preference settings for the cloud computer based on your business requirements. For more information, see Configure preference settings.

  • Scheduled stop: By default, a cloud computer is not stopped even after the cloud computer is disconnected. You can configure a scheduled task to stop the cloud computer. For more information, see Configure a scheduled stop task for a cloud computer.
