Elastic Desktop Service:IM file transfer blocking

Last Updated:Jul 13, 2026

IM file transfer blocking restricts instant messaging (IM) apps on cloud computers to text, voice, and video communication, preventing sensitive files, screenshots, and images from being sent through apps such as WeChat, QQ, and DingTalk.

Limitations

Note the following limitations:

  • Client type: Only the Windows client of IM apps is supported. Web-based IM clients aren't supported.

  • Image version: The cloud computer image version must be 3.1.0 or later.

  • Internal forwarding: Forwarding files within the same IM app isn't blocked because files stay in the cloud computer environment. Blocking applies only when files are sent to external chat windows.

  • Communication methods: After blocking is enabled, IM apps still support text, voice, and video communication.
