Last Updated:Apr 02, 2026

Overdue payments can affect your Web Application Firewall (WAF) services. To avoid service interruptions, monitor your account balance and resolve any overdue payments promptly. This topic describes the causes of overdue payments, the policies that apply when they occur, and how to view your overdue amount.

Causes of overdue payments

An overdue payment occurs when your Alibaba Cloud account has an insufficient balance.

Payment due alert

Based on the average payable amount over the last 7 hours, the system determines if your account balance is sufficient for the next three billing cycles. If your balance is insufficient, the system sends you a notification by SMS or email.

Warning

Once your account has an overdue payment, your services are at risk of suspension. The system sends you notifications. To avoid service interruptions, top up your account promptly.

Account has an overdue payment

  • When your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment, all its pay-as-you-go instances enter an overdue state.

  • For 15 days after a payment becomes overdue, billing for the instance stops. For services that use CNAME access, the CNAME record resolves to the origin server, and traffic no longer passes through WAF.

  • If the overdue amount is within the credit limit of your extended suspension service, your services are not suspended. During this period, you receive a daily reminder by SMS.

    Note

Alibaba Cloud provides an extended suspension service. This service lets you continue using pay-as-you-go resources for a specific period or up to a certain credit limit after your account becomes overdue. Charges continue to accrue during this period. This credit limit does not cap your total overdue amount. Your specific limit and duration are automatically calculated and updated monthly based on your historical spending on Alibaba Cloud.

Top up

If an overdue payment persists for more than 15 days, the system releases the instance and permanently deletes its data.

Recovery is not possible.
