VPN Gateway:Manage IPsec-VPN quotas

Last Updated:Dec 04, 2025

You can manage IPsec-VPN quotas by querying quota usage and requesting quota increases. This topic describes how to increase IPsec-VPN quotas, create quota templates, and perform other related operations.

Background information

Quota Center is an Alibaba Cloud service that lets you centrally manage service quotas. Quota Center is integrated with multiple Alibaba Cloud services, including VPN Gateway. If you use multiple Alibaba Cloud services and want to manage all service quotas from a single interface, you can use Quota Center.

VPN Gateway also provides a quota management entry point in the virtual private cloud (VPC) console. If you do not need to centrally manage quotas for multiple services, you can manage IPsec-VPN service resources directly in the VPC console.

Prerequisite

By default, only Alibaba Cloud accounts are authorized to manage quotas in Quota Center. For RAM users to manage quotas, you must grant RAM users the AliyunQuotasFullAccess permission.

View quotas

You can view IPsec-VPN quotas in one of the following ways:

View quotas in the VPC console

  1. Log on to the VPC console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose O&M and Monitoring > Quota Management.

  3. On the Quota Management page, click the VPN Gateway tab in the Service section. Then, select a quota type to view the corresponding quotas.

    • View general quotas

      1. In the Quota Type section, click the General Quota tab.

      2. You can filter the quotas by keyword to view the name, description, and usage of the target general quota.

    • View API rate limits

      1. In the Quota Type section, click the API Rate Limit tab.

      2. You can filter the quotas by keyword and Region to view the version and quota of the target API rate limit.

Increase quotas

If your business requires a higher quota than the default value for an adjustable IPsec-VPN quota, you can request a quota increase in one of the following ways.

The quota items and results are the same in both the Quota Center console and the VPC console.

Increase a quota in the VPC console

Currently, only general quotas for IPsec-VPN can be increased. The following steps describe how to increase a general quota.

  1. Log on to the VPC console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M and Monitoring > Quota Management.

  3. On the Quota Management page, click the VPN Gateway tab in the Service section.

  4. In the Quota Type section, click the General Quota tab.

  5. Find the target general quota and perform one of the following operations.

    • If the Apply button is available in the Actions column, click Apply in the Actions column and follow Step6 and Step7.

    • If the Apply button is unavailable in the Actions column, follow the on-screen instructions in the Actions column.

  6. In the Apply for Quotas dialog box, set Applied Quotas and Reason, and then click OK.

    Note
    • Quota increase requests are reviewed by the technical support team of each Alibaba Cloud service. To increase the likelihood of approval, provide a reasonable quota value and a detailed reason in your request.

    • The result of your request is sent to you by text message and email.

Alibaba Cloud evaluates your request based on the information you provide and then approves or denies it.

  7. After you submit the request, you can click Application Records in the Actions column to view the approval status.

If the Status of the request is Approved, the quota is increased.

Create a quota template

If a quota template is Enabled and you have joined it, the template automatically submits quota increase requests for new members that are added to your resource directory by the management account. Quotas for existing members are not affected. A quota template lets you request increases for multiple quota items at once, which improves the efficiency and automation of quota management for your entire organization.

Before you create a quota template, make sure that the following requirements are met:

Add a quota to a quota template in the Quota Center console

For more information, see Add a quota to a quota template.

Add a quota to a quota template in the VPC console

  1. Log on to the VPC console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M and Monitoring > Quota Management.

  3. On the Quota Management page, click the VPN Gateway tab in the Service section.

  4. In the Quota Type section, click the General Quota tab.

  5. Find the target general quota and click Create Quota Template in the Actions column.

  6. In the Create Quota Template dialog box, set Applied Quotas for the target quota and click OK.
