Data migration

Last Updated: May 19, 2022

The data migration feature allows you to migrate data from a self-managed InfluxDB instance to a TSDB for InfluxDB® instance.

Prerequisites

  • A TSDB for InfluxDB® instance is created.

  • If you use a self-managed InfluxDB instance, make sure that the following requirements are met:

    • The backup and restoration feature is enabled.

    • The port used for backup and restoration is accessible.

    • The instance version is V1.5 or later.

Procedure

  1. Find the instance that you want to manage and click Manage in the Actions column.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Time Series Data Management > Data Migration and click Add Migration Task.

  3. In the configuration wizard, configure the following parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Task Name

The name of the migration task. The name can contain uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and underscores (_).

    Select Instance Type

The type of the instance from which you want to migrate data.

    Hostname/IP Address

The hostname or IP address of the data source. This parameter is available only when Select Instance Type is set to User-created Instance.

    Note

If you want to specify an IP address, the IP address must be a public IP address. Private IP addresses are not supported.

    Data Access Port

The port that is used to connect to the data source. This parameter is available only when Select Instance Type is set to User-created Instance.

    Note

In the configuration file of your self-managed InfluxDB instance, you can obtain the port specified in the configuration item bind-address in the [http] section. This port is used to connect to the data source.

    Data Backup Port

The port that is used to connect to the data source. This parameter is available only when Select Instance Type is set to User-created Instance.

    Note

In the configuration file of your self-managed InfluxDB instance, you can obtain the port specified in the global configuration item bind-address. The default value of bind-address is 127.0.0.1:8088 that cannot be accessed over the Internet. You must set bind-address to an address that allows Internet access. This ensures that data can be migrated. In this example, the value of bind-address is 127.0.0.1:8088. This indicates that the port 8088 is used for data backup. After the configuration file is modified, you must restart the InfluxDB instance to apply the modified configuration. We recommend that you recover or comment out the configuration settings after data is migrated. This ensures data security.

    Enable HTTPS

Specifies whether to enable HTTPS. This parameter is available only when Select Instance Type is set to User-created Instance.

  4. Click Authorize Instance Access and Next and select the database from which you want to migrate data.

  5. In the lower-right corner, click Prescreen. After the precheck is complete, click Enable to start the migration task.
