Tablestore:Terms

Last Updated:Feb 17, 2025

This topic describes the terms of Tablestore.

Instance

An instance is a logical entity used in Tablestore to manage tables. Each instance is equivalent to a database. Tablestore manages access to Tablestore from applications and measures resources at the instance level.

For information about the instance types, instance naming conventions, and regions in which instances are supported, see Instances.

Endpoint

Each Tablestore instance has an endpoint. You must specify an endpoint before you can perform operations on data and tables in Tablestore.

For information about Tablestore endpoints and how to obtain an endpoint, see Endpoints.

Read and write throughput

Read and write throughput is a Tablestore attribute that is measured by read and write capacity units (CUs). A CU is the minimum billable unit for data read and write operations. Read and write CUs are consumed when you call Tablestore operations to read and write data.

For information about the billing rules of CUs, metered read and write throughput, and reserved read and write throughput, see Read and write throughput.

Region

A region is the physical location of an Alibaba Cloud data center. Tablestore is deployed in multiple regions. You can create Tablestore instances in different regions based on your business requirements.

For information about the regions supported by Tablestore, see Regions.
