Simple Log Service works with Short Message Service (SMS) to provide the SMS log analysis feature, which collects full SMS logs into Simple Log Service. You can query, analyze, transform, and consume the collected logs, allowing you to focus on analysis instead of manual data retrieval.
Asset Details
-
Dedicated Project and Logstore
After you enable the SMS log analysis feature, the system automatically creates a project named sms-log-Alibaba Cloud account ID and a dedicated Logstore named sms-log.
ImportantIf you enable the pay-by-ingested-data billing mode, the system automatically creates a dedicated Logstore that uses this billing mode. To switch to the pay-by-feature billing mode, you can modify the Logstore configuration. For more information, see Modify the configurations of a Logstore.
-
Dedicated dashboards
Two dashboards are provided by default.
NoteDo not modify the dedicated dashboards because they may be upgraded at any time. To visualize query results, create a custom dashboard. For more information, see Create a dashboard.
Dashboard

Pricing
-
Short Message Service does not charge extra fees for the log analysis feature. Simple Log Service provides a free quota of 500 MB for Short Message Service, equivalent to approximately 5 million messages. Usage beyond this quota incurs Simple Log Service fees. For more information about the billing rules, see Billing of Simple Log Service.
-
If the Logstore uses the pay-by-feature billing mode, Simple Log Service charges for storage, read traffic, requests, data transformation, and data shipping after SMS logs are ingested. For more information, see Billable items of pay-by-feature.
-
If the Logstore uses the pay-by-ingested-data billing mode, Simple Log Service charges for the raw data ingested from Short Message Service. For more information, see Billable items of pay-by-ingested-data.
Limits
Dedicated Logstores do not support writing other data. Features such as querying, statistics, and alerting are not restricted.
Scenarios
The SMS log analysis feature helps you analyze sending errors and monitor the delivery status of each message.
-
Query and analyze the delivery status of sent messages, or break down the volume and success rate by region or template.
-
Look up message sending records by template content, batch number, or signature.
-
Run SQL statements to query delivery status for O&M purposes, and export large volumes of log data.
Best practices
Short Message Service can be used for marketing campaigns.
-
If some phone numbers in a batch are no longer in use, sending messages to them wastes costs. Use the SMS log analysis feature to identify invalid numbers and reduce expenses.
-
To analyze marketing effectiveness, you need to review message delivery across regions and Internet service providers (ISPs). Use the built-in dashboard templates to view distribution by region or ISP. If the templates do not meet your needs, write SQL statements to analyze the data.
