Short Message Service:China Mobile's controls on redirection information in messages

Last Updated:Nov 17, 2025

Dear Alibaba Cloud SMS users,

According to a recent notice from China Mobile, its headquarters has required all provincial branches to strictly filter messages containing redirection information, such as URLs or contact details, by the end of November 2025. Effective December 1, 2025, messages with such information risk being blocked by the carrier, causing delivery failures.

China Mobile announced a similar policy change in July 2025. For details, see the [July 3, 2025] China Mobile's controls on SMS template registration and referral information.

Alibaba Cloud SMS strongly recommends avoiding URLs, contact details, and other redirection information in your SMS content to reduce the risk of blocking.

FAQ

Are messages with redirection information blocked by all three major carriers in the Chinese mainland?

Yes, China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile all have issued policies to filter redirection information. If your SMS content includes such information, it is at risk of being blocked, leading to delivery failures across all major networks.

What is the official timeline for China Mobile's policy to block SMS with redirection information?

While China Mobile first announced this policy in July 2025, enforcement has varied by province. According to the latest notice, all provincial carriers are required to have the filtering fully in place by the end of November 2025. However, the final enforcement level and exact date are still subject to each provincial carrier's implementation.

How can I register a message template containing redirection information with China Mobile through Alibaba Cloud SMS?

Alibaba Cloud reviews redirection information within templates according to carrier requirements. If it meets these requirements, the platform will submit it to the carrier for registration. We cannot guarantee a successful registration. This is due to limitations in the carrier's systems and the fact that they do not provide a way to query the registration status or progress.

What are China Mobile's requirements for redirection information?

China Mobile defines redirection information as any SMS content that includes a landline number, a special service number, or a URL. Currently, China Mobile allows each sub-port to support a maximum of two landline numbers (including special service numbers) and one fixed URL.
